Should these bullies be held accountable?

A friend of mine saw this and posted it on her FB acct. http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/03/29/massachusetts.bullying.suicide/index.html?hpt=T2 I'm surprised they are taking it this far to prosecute these teenagers for their combined actions that led up to this young woman's suicide. I'm glad they are taking this seriously, not like the old addage of "kids will be kids" junk. I know the major contributor to my current waistline is because when I was bullied to cope I ate as that was how my Mother coped with life she ate her woes away. Talking to the councilors in school was a joke because they'd haul the bullies in and it got worse and worse. So I kept my mouth shut in high school and just dealt with it my freshman year really & after that everyone treated each other better for the most part. But I wonder what kind of sentance do you think these young people deserve?

Someone did a study of bullies and found that their brains' pleasure centers got a charge when they were mean to people. People like this are monsters. I hope they lock up the teens for a long, long time. As a victim of bullying my entire school life I have no sympathy for these monsters and I hope they suffer as that poor child did.

hi snuggle, I saw this on the news and thought it was great that they are actually doing something about it. Like you said, they usual way would be to haul them into the office which only made things worse. I don't know what their punishment should be but hopefully it is harsh enough to not just impact them but others around them to stop this kind of behavior. What they need to do is come up with something effective before the bullying leads to something this tragic. That's a tough one because as soon as they get reported it usually makes things worse.

I hope they make a example of them and throw the book at them. This seems to be a new trend. Even though the last case with the mother bulling a child nothing happened which made me very upset. We have come a long way from the days of black eyes. Very sad and it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Something needs to be done or it will only get worse.

Bullying is a serious issue that should be taken seriously by everyone. The school should do something to stop this because it is usually in school where bullying happens. We don't know how some of these kids grow up or how they are raised and when they are in school they unleash all their poison or venom on others. This should not be tolerated. Bullies should be punished and bullying should be considered a criminal offense just like harassment.

To some extent these idiots should be blamed for everything but somehow i think we as an individual should try and act to thiese bullies as well. I remember when im in gradeschool someone tried to bully me but i fought back yes i got hurt and lost but by that time the bully knew that im not an easy target and he already excluded me in his list lol . Now that im an adult already i heard this saying that you will and never be inferior to other people unless you let them to treat you one.

These teens should definitely be held accountable for their actions. They're old enough to weigh the goods and bad of their actions. It's ridiculous how teachers and parents are unaware of the things that are conducted at their child's school. I understand that there are just way too many students for the teachers to keep an eye on all of them, but they should at least pay a little bit of attention to the behaviors of their student in the classroom. When a student is being bullied, they don't usually have the urge to go to school and so they will skip. If they were a good student at first, with good grades and then eventually their grades starts dropping and they are not in class much anymore; then there's something going on there. Lots of teachers don't pay enough attention to their students, even when they have a hunch that something is going on; perhaps they feel that they're not getting paid enough to go an extra mile for their students. That is a shame. Bullying could be easily prevented if only everyone works together; providing programs to stop against bullying. Bullying now is not the same as your typical stare downs, smirks, and rude comments anymore. It has moved on to cruel methods like beatings, rape, etc. Parents should also learn to teach their kids to respect each other. Good parenting goes a long way.

Hi 3SnuggleBunnies, They deserve to be charged with homocide, as a matter of fact every single person involved should be charged...the teachers, the principal, the Board of Education because in reading the story extensively I see that the only thing that has been done is that they suspended some of these monsters....yaaaaaa a vacation!!! I am so sorry that you were a victim too...so was my oldest for a long time in Middle and High school until she couldn't take it anymore and she beat the crap out of a girl...done! No one ever bothered her again...but to this day she has anger management problems, she has a very bad temper and she don't care if you're 6 feet tall and weighing 2-300 pounds...she will confront anyone...I guess too many years of abuse from "school mates" has left it's mark on her:-( It's kind of a good thing though cuz we live in a rough neighborhood and no one, absolutely no one messes with us!! Take care Snuggles. ~G~

These kids are the worst. I can't even imagine what they were saying to her to make her do that. It's just nasty. I can't think of anything that these kids deserve but i'm sure the girl's family wants the same for them.
