How do you respond when you say someone will pray for you?

Even if you are not Christian.. even if your agnostic or an athiest, how do you respond when people say that they will pray for you? (Without adding an entire lecture or preaching, I mean!) I've seen some people blow up and get completely bent out of shape. I simply smile and thank them for the kind gesture, as it's usually intended to be. Are you a believer? If not, how do you respond?

Hi friend, I am a firm believer in GOD, by whatever name you call him. When some one says he'she will prey for me, i get touched. The very fact that the person is saying he/she will pray for me, indicates how much the person care for me and value me or love me. I will remain indebted for his/her prayer for me. Prayers from bottom of heart always works, according to me, even if it does not work, i get mental satisfaction and feel happy for that person's love for me. Happy mylotting, friend.

I'm agnostic, so I tend to smile and say thank you. The person's heart is in the right place at the least, and then again, it may help, so why should I get bent out of shape.

For me, when you pray for a person, it means that that person is special to you. I have this person right now who is very special to me, and she is always included in my prayers. I always pray for her safety as well as her family and love ones. Actually she even often reminded me to pray. And what made that person more special to me is that she also included me in my prayers. It's really nice to pray for special persons, coz you are very solemn and really feel your prayers. Have a nice day! Happy myLotting!

well, i'll be very, very grateful. prayer heals the soul and mends the heart. also, prayers are a great inspiration and source of guidance in our daily lives. no matter how we say it and where, it works. so, when somebody prays for you, it works better, and only shows that other people care for you to pray for you.

An heavenly love can make someone pray for you..And what would I respond, I will pay a prayer back to him, thanking God for his/her life.

I believe in G-d but I am not Christian. whenever someone says I'll pray for you I say thank you but I think if they are praying I'll change my mind , they are wasting their time.

Yes, I'm a believer. Sometimes I just say thank you. But if I'm in a goofy mood, there are times that I might say, "Thanks, I need it." That usually gets a smile out of whomever says it. But, there aren't too many occasions that people say these things anymore. I guess it just isn't sociably acceptable. I'm not really sure why it is, but people aren't very apt to talk about religion openly too much these days. That is, unless they are among their closest few friends or something.

depends on when it's said, how it's said and by who. if it's said with sarcasm like "i don't approve of something you do,about you or your beliefs",it pisses me off. but if it's with kind meaning i don't mind it.like if i'm ill or something like that.

Hi zoey, I believe in God but not in the traditional sense and I'm not big on organized religion. I've often been very critical yet when someone says they'll pray for me I say thank you. After all it's their way of thinking and if they believe they're helping, maybe they are and at least they may feel good. Blessings.

As a Christian, I thank them. If I were an agnostic or atheist I might say something like, "If you want to."

I don't understand why anyone would get upset about someone saying they would pray for them. I'm not very religious but I realize that some people are, and when they say that, they are simply expressing their care and concern. It certainly does me no harm and if it makes them feel good to say it, well, I'm glad to let someone feel good. I certainly would never get mad or say anything to hurt their feelings. I simply say thank you and that's that.

I follow general pagan ways, BUT, I do not deny the existance of any higher power by whatever name. I would accept the kind gesture with politeness and thankfulness that someone would take a moment to send me helpful and kind energies in a time of apparent troubles.

I will take it that these persons are caring and would like to see me better. If I am ignostic I would take it with a pinch of salt and it would not make any difference for me. Since I am a christian I would take great joy knowing that other people they may be of different denominations or religions are praying for me. I would be thankful to them.

First thing I believe in God and if some one says that they will pray for me. It is totally touching for me, I will be thankful to them and will try to do all possible ways to make them happy. There are less people who come forward to help and pray for others. Every one is busy and troubled in their own problems and dont find time to pray for others. I appreciate such peoples and wish there are many more.

I do no beleive in any god of any kind, but I do know the power of prayer. As most of the people said, I also thank the person. And I am happy for that person because I know that praying for me, is not going to do anything for or against me but it is going to make the praying one happier to be helpfull. Praying is a mental exercise similar to meditation. Repeating a prayer several times is like a mantra and it has the same effect on the brain. I have also seen in hospitals people getting better just because they knew somebody was praying for them, so they got convinced it would help and mind is so powerfull, that it did.

I will have to say thank you and that i appreciate their effort for me.Most of the time people dont get to say such kind words. People tend to say bad stuff or even sometimes try to discredit your credibility, but when people say they will pray for you in a good way? Wow that kind of statement will instantly clear my mind and feel good already ;)
