Driving a car - fun or necessity?

April 21, 2010 4:31pm CST
My husband quite enjoys taking the car for a ride just for fun. I on the other side can't see the point in this. I use the car for necessity or convenience, but I would never get it out of the garage without anywhere to go to. What about you?

The primary function of a family car it to bring the family members to where they want to go and back. Whether it is for necessity like going to church or work or shopping, it is still a vehicle. If a member like your husband wants to go on a relaxing ride, by all means, take the car. Driving is therapeutic, too.

Hm, well. Good point. I guess it gives you a chance to take your mind off the day-to-day.

I learned to drive a car. Finally I managed to pass my practical driving test in February 2010. I have a blue five door car. Where I live I own two parking spaces but not a garage. I enjoy driving along town streets, country lanes and dual carriageways. I fully appreciate having my full driving license at long last. For years I had a provisional driving license. It wasn't convenient to travel on trains and buses with my double buggy. In the front I had my baby daughter and in the back I had my disabled toddler son. My son is unable to walk because he is disabled. I use my car to go shopping, take my son to an appointment or go to a place of interest. Going on a drive for fun would remind me of a driving lesson. On my driving lessons I drove around in my instructors car.

I am sure it is great for you to finally have a car.

i dont mind goin in the car because i like to look at the scenery but i dont drive just for the sake of driving. gas is too expensive to do that these days!

Yes, scenery is a nice reason. I enjoy being a co-driver though - at least I can see the scenery around.

We use to drive for pleasure but with gas so expensive we just drive for needs these days. We have taken some great driving trips in the past.

Cost is an issue. No question.

Just like in the Philippines, it is a necessity, owning a cellphone and a motorized vehicle, and driving your own ride... as long as it's not breaking you financially... rides are always necessity...

I certainly would struggle without a car.

We use the car daily for work and whatever we need or want to do. So, i would say for fun and necessity. TATA.

Hey, I don't take the car out with no where to go, just for the fun of it, what a waste of fuel that is :P But if I am extremely bored I may plan somehwere to go for a few hours, maybe to an attraction or to visit a friend or whatever. But yeah, the car has become a necssity for me, for getting to the shops, around and about, using public transport is such a cafuffle. Also, my business is mobile, so I really need it for business too :) Lee.

You probably spend a lot of time in the car then. I only drive if I have to.

I believe that when you're younger using a car is really more for fun and none are not a necessity. But when you get older cars extremely necessary because you need to get from place to place. who else agrees with me?

Most people will agree. When you first get your license, it is a lot more exciting. When you are older it's just useful.
