what will you do?

This is the scenario: You applied for the job online and after a week or two, you received a phone call and email to call them for a telephone interview but you got another job already, would you care to call the previous one to tell them that you find a job already or you will just let ignore the email and call?

If i applied for a job and then for another and possibly another, then one of the other jobs came through. In the meantime I get a call from one of the first jobs that I applied for. I would likely call the prospective job and thank them explaining that you have since been hired. This shows respect and thankfulness that they even called. They will remember you and perhaps if you are out of work again sometime, you can always go back to the company who called you and ask for a job if need be, I wouldn't bother ignoring it, depending on of course the job description.

I just emailed them and I agree with you that I don't know that in the future, I will be needing to work in their company...It is always wonderful to be grateful and not to burn bridges and I am glad to received great ideas from everyone here!

Exactly, you do not want to burn any bridges as you never know. Should a day come when they are offering an employment position and you happen to need work, you will be glad you let them know that you have since been hired and thank them for the consideration. Good luck to you with your new job too by the way. Cheers!

I would let them know that I found another job while waiting to hear from them. it is only good manners. You never know when you may need to apply there again, so you want to make sure to be on good terms with them, and be honest.

I would most likely return the call to inform them that you have already gotten a job. On top of the fact that it is plain courtesy to do so, you will also be in their good books, if you happen to be working with them in the future or intend to apply for a job there. In addition, it will confirm that you have value and others have spotted your worth faster than them. You'll never know when you may be head hunted or they offer you with a higher pay package, to win you over to their company.

That's alright, I feel. Whether it is a phonecall or an email, at least there is some form of communication to inform them that you are already taken so that they would have to start looking for someone else to fill the position. All the best in your new job, checapricon!

Better call them and inform them of your status. By doing that, you will doing yourself some courtesy, you will building yourself good, and it will be credited/deposited to your PIA (Personal Integrity Account) which you can use as collateral for the rest of your life.

Hi che, really glad to see you to turn up here again this morning Seems that you are really busy with your personal affair and find no time to participate in the activities here for quite a long time. I would like to inform them if I have got another job already. This is not solely for the courtesy it's also giving chance for others or the person after my name in the waiting list to get the job soon. As we know the company or department usually will offer us a certain period of time like a week or a couple of week to accept the vacancy. If I just ignore the email or call definitely this will delay the admission of staff. Happy posting

Great question! I've actually been in this situation before. I believe in always being honest, so I would definitely call the other place back who requested a phone interview with me to tell them I already found a job. I would hate to waste their time with them trying to continually call me after that wondering what's going on. I know I would expect the same courtesy, so I would treat them in the same manner. I would call them (not email) and thank them for the opportunity they provided me with a possible phone interview. It is my belief that if I were to leave things on good terms with this other company, who knows...someday down the road, maybe I'll need a job again and can call them back. I would say, "Hey, remember me?" Perhaps my honesty with them regarding already getting a job would make me stand out in their minds. Even though I had a job prior to interviewing with them, I think it might work out better in the long run having been honest with them. Regardless of whether or not this scenario plays out at all, I still think honesty is the best policy. If I didn't take two minutes to call them back and tell them I already found a job, they would waste much more time than that trying to get a hold of me to offer me this position. I think it's kind to get in touch with them first. Excellent discussion, my friend.

hi checapricorn Be honest do the right thing, tell the the online job people that you have now got another job. you will save them work and hassle and know that you have done the honest, right thing. I would not ignore the email or the call. You know what you should do, so go do it.

I just emailed them, you know, I got the call before they email but I do know if I am doing the right thing....I didn't call them back, I just reply their email... I also can't afford to ignore and when I read all the responses here, I was motivated more to send them an email telling them the truth and at the same time thanking them for their time in contacting me!

probably, to my instinct, i would just ignore the email and would not make a call or ignore the call for the interview. if i find the job i already have is better than that one who still needs interview, this really i will not bother myself. but sometimes, thinking about it twice, i guess we could still be frank with them and tell them the truth that you already got another job, so you won't need to be interviewed. by the way, i read your discussion about the skin problem you have. so sorry to hear this happening to you. i can't response to it, as i don't have the exact idea what the disease is. but i am sure you don't have to have that. i just say, take care of yourself in that foreign land.

Hey Che, I would definately respond in either an email or cal, or both. I would want them to know that you appreciate their interest in you. You never know what the future will bring. Maybe you won't like this job or because of the economy a lay off is always a possibility. Always leave the door open and good luck sweetie with your new job. xoxo Leenie

I will choose to call the previous one ... personnel manager make a phone call to call up his interview ,he or she will not call back after you have told them you have find a job in their coming phone call .you will probably have opportunities for cooperation ,replying mail that you have done can not damage your relations ,after all ,you have submitted resume first .
