How old were you the first time you travel?

I had gone on vacations when I was little. Our uncle had a va and we all jumped in with sandwichs for the trip. The trip was long mainly because the roads were pitiful in those days. But my first real trip was when I was 11 years old. I took a place for the first time in my life to go from Chile, my country, to the north of the United States. My father had a fellowship to work in science and we all went with him as it was for one year and a half. Since then I have traveled in planes many times. And for a long time they have just been a means of transportation for me. But then is was awesome. It was thrilling and scary at the same time. It took us ages to reach our destiny. The trip to Miami alone took about a day. Now its done in half that time. But then the planes were spacious, the food was exquisite and they even had toys and games for us, kids. Do you have memories of the first time you went to an adventure in another place? Did you have fun? Share!

i HAVE NEVER FLOWN AS U KNOW. WHEN I WAS ABOUT 10 I GUESS MY PARENTS TOOK MY SISTER & I TO THE SMOKEY MOUNTAIN. iT WAS A LONG DRIVE & I HAVE NEVER TRAVELED TOO WELL. tHE highlight of the trip to me was we went to an outside play that was about the american indians. Even tho it was sad & the way they were treated was awful i have never forgotten it or have never forgotten how bad they were treated. Another time they took us to a major league baseball game in st. louis, mo. I have never been as miserable in my life. Sure never wanted to go back to another one. It was no fun to me at all. So do u see why i don't travel, lol?

WOW, Jerusalem!!! That´s an adventurous life! Children have to do a lot of things they shouldn´t when they are in another country. When I was in the US as a child, I had to recite the alliegence to the US flag with a hand on my heart. And I also had to sing the Star Spangled Banner. You can kiss a Madonna, but you ur heart is still the same. Did they make you because you here a jew or everyone had to do it? Are you a mossad agent? Isn´t it incredible, Jo, the people we get to meet here? A chilean, an american from Tennessee and a mossad agent ( or are you american, JF?).

Now Jo, dont blame your chilhood memories for your hate of travels. I remember that first time we went to the US, I would say Id rather live in a shanty at the US than in Santiago. That was before we left for the US. We were in Summer in Chile and in Wisconsin it was all frozen in January. I loved the squirrels jumping from tree to tree until we all got A COLD!!! I dont know whether it was a cld, flu or something worse. I had to have 5 shots of antibiotics!!! I hated needles. And that was the end of the American Dream for me. Later on I made friends, had enormous fun on Saturdays at the Woolworths (we didnt have those in Chile then, even went to girl Scouts meetings and to camp on Summer with my best friend. Still, fisrt things are remembered better and I still remember those shots and how my view about the country changed after that. But I did go with my father to see Jsilhouse Rock, only the two of us. Popcorn, Elvis and daddy: what can be better? Hug!

ya my first travel was like 3 years before when i was 18. I had gone with my uncle to Singapore at the time of Chinese new year. It was quite fun. We went to many places. We also did some business. met lots of master and rinpoche. We had the chance to see their culture of celebrating new year. They would give a red envelope with some money in it to an unmarried boy.

That is interesting, prateek. We westerners know so little of the rest of the world´s culture.

We moved from New Jersey to Texas when I was about 22 months, don't remember it, but does that count? After that, we went back to New Jersey almost every summer to see the grand folks.

Well, I remember at some point going to a wedding. And I remember going to see my great-grand mother Those were all before my sister was born, so before I was 4... well, maybe my sister might've been there with the great-grand, but I don't think so

I suppose that what really counts are your trips to see your grandparents. Those you remember.

Boy do I ever! I was born in Northern Italy and every year we used to go on vacation in my dad’s little blue car and travel over the border to Switzerland and France where we would go skiing. It was not a luxury to travel that way over there because the countries are so close and within driving distance. I was used to those kinds of holidays but the biggest adventure came when my parents decided we should immigrate to Australia. We travelled by ship and it took 28 days to arrive in Fremantle Western Australia. It was a lovely boat with all the amenities and the journey was similar to a cruise. It would have been fun if it wasn’t for the fact that, first I got bad seasickness and later got whooping cough and was confined to my cabin for the biggest part of the trip! It was not fun and I was glad to finally get off the boat into a country that although great was unfamiliar to me and everyone spoke a language I did not understand and that was when I endured more trauma! I came through the other side and I love Australia. It was a rough journey and a tough beginning but I am so glad I live here now.

hi,friend,h r u,how is you health? In my living area, there is a tradition of offering hair[on head]to our God,Lord Venkateswara-temple constructed in 13th century by a king on the top of the 7 hills[on 7th hill]So it is common for every body, our parents take us to that temple immediately after completion of 1 year to baby.So that was the first travel to me without any memories. Later was,at my 7th year, i tavelled by train along with my uncle. In India there is no need of purchase ticket in bus/train for below 5 years age.As i seems to be 5 yers boy,my uncle didn't purchase ticket for me.But when ticket ckecking collector, come to us,and when he asked me how old are you?...I said,i am 7 years...see my uncle's face??..finally pid fine////////

Little kids tell on adults many times when they are doing something wrong. And we, adults, tend to try to bypass laws. The tradition of offering the baby´s hair is lovely. Thanks for sharing!

When I was a young I went on trips to France with my family. I liked hearing the French language. When I went to secondary school I learned French so that delighted me. I learn that language for five years. From a very tiny age I dreamed about one day traveling the world. When I was 13 years old I got a paper round and I saved up to go off traveling. At age 14 years old I had enough money and I was able to fly off to Greece. I went with my mom. It was very exciting to go on a plane that first time. I got to see the landscape below before the plane went into the clouds. I got severe ear pain just before the plane landed. It was so lovely to spend time on the Greek island. The weather was very hot and I got my shoulders burned. So that first country I went to was France, then the second country was Greece. At age 16 years old I worked as a Saturday shop assistant. I went to the Netherlands with a friend when I was 17 years old. Hug to you my dear friend.

My parents took me back east when I was a baby, and I remember a lot of driving trips when I was a child. The first time I went "on my own" was the year I studied in Germany when I was 20...

the first time i rode a plane and travel from this island to that island, so to say, was when i was 21 already. it was some kind of a business trip as i was sent to that far place by the company. i was living in Luzon at that time and working a technical assistant with a Makati based company. i was sent to Mindanao with one of my colleagues. we stayed about 3 days there. it was a commercial plane when we went there but a private plane of that company flew us back to Manila.

I was three years old when I first traveled to an island for holidays with my family, and I cannot say if it was wonderful because I barely remember what happened exactly so I think it was good enough. Now this year I am planning to fly with my boyfriend for a summer vacation.

Hi Marg, I was still a kid then when i first experienced travelling from our province to manila. my grandmother brought me to Manila- the Philippines capital city. it was a great experience. i was so overwhelmed about the tall buildings, malls and all the lights along the streets. i also enjoyed our visit to the Rizal park and manila zoo and had picture taken there.

I was thrilled and scared too on my first travel to go out my country by myself. I went to Singapore for a 2 years contract. I did all papers works by myself through an agency. I was scared because I don't know what kind of employer I have in the real world staying with them for 2 years.! It was hard at first. But in few months I was adjusted to the kind of job I've got and I found out they are very kind even they are a loud kind of people.! after 2 years they renew my contract so I stayed 4 years with them that was way back 1997 up to 2001 but until now we still have communications. they are good people!

I travelled for the first time at the age of 14 years which i think is a small age . I think that travelling places helps to know the people of their and diffrent parts of the world we come to know about thei culture , traditions , their lifestyle and many more noticeable things.Travelling places with parents to diffrent places is really a nice experiance and it helps to devlope your personality.

I was 13 when I first traveled for 12 hours through bus but not in another country. My parents moved to another region in my country while my elder sister and I were left to continue our studies. So during summer we visited our parents. It was fun and exciting knowing that I was going to see another place and at the same time visit my family but when it was time to go back to school, I felt like crying. It was sad being that our age was the age when we should have been with our family but there were situations that didn't allow it to happen.

My first big trip abroad was in the 1970s, I was about 4 years old and I went to Germany with my parents. I don't remember much about it but I have seen lots of photos and my parents have told me about it. I know I was given a big cuddly toy donkey which was big enough for me to sit on. It was in my bedroom for years.
