I just haqd a response to my pirates discussion and they mentioned that they loved to play with their daughters dolls house and it bought back happy memories of when my girls were small and my husband at the time had a business making doll houses and I used to help him by fitting the carpets on the floors etc. My girls used to have hours of fun. So did you have one or do your chilren have one and do they just sit there or do they get played with? Huggles. Ellie :D

I have a Strawberry Shortcake doll house! It was all I would ever brag about as a 4 year old and I hardly ever remember a time when didn't have it. It's a huge pink thing made of sturdy plastic and I used carry it all the way to my best friend's house across the street. During the summer, I'd move the dolls around like when they're making lunch, about to eat, lounging in the veranda space, or napping in the attic. I don't really play with it anymore, but I do take it out when younger cousins come over and are restless. It's not in bad shape but some of it's faded and I hope to restore it someday. :)

No., boo hoo never had one myself.... but made up for that by having many shoe boxes and making them into peg dolls accomaodation ... lol which means i had many compact and portable "houses" of many differing types... ordinary every day one ., to fairies, and animals, (hedgehogs usually) and also when come to the end had a younger sister who would play with them... so the theme of playing with little peoples was definately there., even if on a much smaller scale.. I had three boys, so no dolls houses, but had medival forts/castles/and war compounds/army barracks.., so same thing but for boys as it where oh yeah and of course pirates and islands and garages and cars hospital and vets.. depending which son and which interest was "IN" at the time... All where constructed and made/created... which was just as much fun from begining to end... Then they progress to tree houses and dens..... but role play and using the mind in different situations was always fun. I have made some minitures in the past suitable for dolls houses, but when i actually treated my self to a real shop bought one., unfortunately left in the hands of some one who "lost" it... AAHH !!! However arrival of new grand daughter... feel hope on the horizon., maybe i'll get to play with hers..... such small dreams are worth more than huge amounts of gold eh? and the memories so precious... glad you have them too... xxx

Hi Artizan, I have a son now also so can relateto the forts and pirate ships etc. buthow creative of you to build these mini houses out of shoe boxes as these work just as well, my son has one shoe box in which he keeps his treasures and that is in camoflauge which is reason he kept that box and wore the shoes that came in them. Wonderful news that you now have a granddaughter so you may get to play with a real dolls house yet, I am just sad that I didn't keep the girls, especially as I helped with the production of it. Excellent idea! My exhubby used to make the houses when we were together and I used to carpet, draw in and paint roof tiles and fit carpet and vinyl etc. just don't know what happened to the one the girls had. I might ask him perhaps he has in his loft but to make a new one great idea and myson will love it too and at presnt whenever the girlsgo away anywhere they buy me a thimble now they can buy a furniture pice - cool. Me and Wendie gonna play with one she has in her loft too! lol Huggles. Ellie :D

oh no we cant have you sad.... perhaps best thing is plan with your girls to either make one or find one on e bay or what ever, and each time they visit a little more work can be done on it... and even your son could have his own room.. Not being able to change the past., but you can build your future memories and take it your girls are old enough to design things... so this could be a loverly high point of all visits and searches in charity shops and a way for you all to be creative together BG SMILE :) FOR ALL OF YOU think about it :)

I use to have a Sindy house as a child it was as tall as I was and was made out of plastic and about three or four storeys high. I used to love playing with it until one day my little brother decided that it would be a good idea to swing on it and off course he snapped it. I was not too impressed with him that day. My daughter never had a dolls house as she did not like anything to do with dolls she had no interest in them at all she much preferred her toy work bench or her toy cars.

It was me who responded to your discussion and I mentioned that I love playing with my daughter’s doll house. I’ve always loved them and sadly as a child I didn’t have one! I keep telling my daughter that it is MY dollhouse and she vehemently argues this fact of course (LOL)! What we have at the moment is a toy dollhouse and what I would like to buy on day if I ever have spare cash (LOL) is a collector’s one where the furnishings and accessories are miniature works of art. I would love to own a dollhouse like that but they don’t come cheap!

When I was a child, I had a doll house, but it was nothing like the ones they have today. Just a house made of probably tin, or whatever they was made out of back in the 50's and a few pieces of furniture, and a family. I have seen some very nice one out now. We just pretended we had all that the ones now have. Don't know if my daughter had one or not. She was more into boy things. But hasn't all that we had as a child become so much more nicer now a days than back when we had them.

Im sure I did have one as a child, and did enjoy playing with my dolls. Unfortunately I had no sisters to play with, just 2 brothers who were very much into everything but dolls I am sure that if I do have a daughter (I have a son but if he wants one he can lol) she will have a dolls house and dolls to play with.

No, but we did have a barn. Santa (My dad) made it. It was braced so well that we added a hay mow. The doors were big enough we could climb through them for many years. He should have made them for others because it lasted into the grandchildren and many a fair animal storage.

No, I never had a doll house. I was more interested in animals than I was dolls. LOL My kids never had a doll house either. But then again they're both boys, so that's why they never had one. Happy mylotting!

hi ellie333 no I never had a dollhouse but interestingly an Aunt sent me all these little people with chairs, tables all the stuff for a doll house .I would play with them by the hour and pretend Ihad a house with some make shift stuff so I did use my imagination to create an imaginary doll house. I always wanted a real one but did not ever get one. guess they thought it too much money so I have not a clue why really. we were never that poor.

Hi Hatley, sometimes using our imagination is all the play things w need, I used to have great games and myself and my brother would put a blanket over the table and have a hidden camp where I would play dolls and he would play cars . It great that you had the real furniture bis though. Huggles. Ellie :D

My husband built real houses and he made the most beautiful doll house for our 2 daughter once for Christmas. The hoyse was big enough so that the girls could get in walking. It had shelves and some furniture. Many years later, he made a club house for the grandkids of one of our daughters and a castle for the other grandsons.

I used to have a dolls' house when I was a child in the 1970s and 1980s. It was quite small and basic, but I remember it had carpet and wallpaper and little paintings on the walls. It just had an upstairs and downstairs, I can't remember how many rooms. I had some plastic and some wooden furniture and accessories. My kids had dolls' houses too and when they have all left home, I would like to buy one for myself and spend some time and money adding to it, creating something beautiful that I can keep and treasure. I do think dolls' houses are beautiful and I love all the detail and the tiny accessories. We went to Longleat a few times and they have a little museum of dolls' houses there and some of those are gorgeous, really expensive looking and classy.
