Years ago, my Dad used to come home with a newspaper called Reveille once a week, especially for my benefit (link to it below) that is no more...but one of the reasons he bought it was the rather good Word Search feature it had in there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reveille_%28newspaper%29 You know the type of thing; a list of words under a grid and the idea was to find all the words then cross them off the list. The words could be found back to front, diagonally or in straight lines. I am not sure if such puzzles exist online but I still have a Word Search magazine with over 100 puzzles in it. I tend to take it whenever we travel by coach somewhere as Carlisle is quite isolated compared to other cities. However, the Word Search mag I have at Mum's is horrendous. It has phrazes in there or two words that aren't found together. I much prefer one word at a time as I am old-fashioned like that lol. How about you? Do you like Word Search puzzles or do you prefer Crosswords and Suduko (the latter I am useless at) haha!

I'm not so crazy about word search, crosswords or Sudoku (especially Sudoku bleah), but I do like word puzzle like cryptograms and crostics and such.

You will have to explain to me what cryptograms and crostics are because I don't have a clue!

A cryptogram is where letters are substituted for other letters, so for example "A" is represented as "Q", etc., and you have to puzzle out what is being said. An acrostic is very much like a crossword, except that certain letters from each word spell out a phrase.

I really enjoy word searches. I always try to find the words as fast as I can. Now the others, crosswords an suduko are impossible mostly for me. But I do enjoy scrabble too.

I don't try to find the words as quickly as possible like you do but I can't go onto the next puzzle without finding all the words in the previous one first.

I haven't played Scrabble for years but I believe the rules have changed somewhat so "die-hard" fans of this game aren't too happy about it? Whatever the changes may be I would still be rubbish at it! I am glad you are good at Suduko. That must be highly satisfying, I'm sure.

I love crosswords, word searches, and sudokus. They are my life! I'm the more logically-oriented person, so I can adjust to games like sudoku and minesweeper, but I love crosswords and word searches, too. When I was younger, I absolutely loved word searches. My mom would buy me the little kid workbooks, which had tons of word search worksheets, and I would sit on the couch and work on them all day long. When I started to get older (and had finished several dozen word search books), I started to do crossword puzzles. They didn't seem as fun as word searches, but they were fun enough, and my sister and I would work on them together for hours on end. Now, I'm completely addicted to sudokus. I think they are the funnest thing in the world! At first, finishing one was quite something, but now, I'm always racing to beat times. I usually like to do them as I'm watching a movie, as I'm a multitasker. :)

Wow, you are so talented, especially with the sudokus! It is good that you didn't give up on them at the start...I'm afraid I did!

Well yes, An evening's relaxation would not be the same if I did not find a crossword to do. There is one in our daily paper that is quite good and then I tend to go looking in magazines to do them also. Codewords are good too.. My favourites are crossword puzzles, but I do like the codeword puzzles also. _Derek

I love to do word search puzzles. They are my favorite word puzzles to do. I can sit for hours on end doing word search puzzles. My children like to do them too. There's nothing better on a rainy day than relaxing with a book of word search puzzles.

Aww, that is a nice image I have in my mind..you and your children doing Word Search puzzles on a rainy day. I like playing them on a long coach trip but I still have loads of them to do in my big magazine..it's just good to know I haven't finished them yet.

I would go for suduko over cross words which can be tough well atleast for me.the former are really easy for me and i keep on playing it in my mobile as well..there have been times when i used to solve some puzzles but i no longer read newspapers lol so had to settle for the game in mobile .I would love to play chess as well...it can keep me busy for hours together and is a nice brain teaser.great day.

I like word searches to! My mother loves to do crossword puzzles, but I can't seem to get the hang of them! I always leave half of the boxes blank because I have no clue what the answers are! Word searches are easily and they don't make me think too much. I have gotten a bunch of tough word search puzzles though.

I know exactly what you mean about crossword puzzles. The really difficult ones have two sets of clues with the same answers. I don't think I've ever completed one in my lifetime even though I've always been good at English and words...so I was quite relieved when Word Searches came along. I completed a couple more out of my magazine earlier which prompted this discussion. Quite therapeutic, actually and a change from my daily strife lol.

I like word search puzzles, but I prefer crosswords and sudoku. I think them more challenging and distract our minds when we want to pass the time.

Thanks for that! Yes I suppose you are right. I'm a simple girl that likes simple pleasures and I like the fact that Word Searches aren't that taxing...but if you are dyslexic they would be (apologies to anyone who suffers from this).
