Do we all know what government spending is when WE see it?

I was listening to an "interview", more like a bash democrats and the government forum, with the 'Wicked Witch of HP" Carly Fiorina on CNBC this afternoon. Most of the "interview" was spent bashing all spending on the government, and the state level, by both women. When asked what she would do differently if she was elected Carly said that she would SPEND MORE on innovative technologies. I happen to agree with her that we really do need to do more of this, but this is added spending. This is part of the reason that we are in this mess: Everyone wants to spend more on certain things. So do you think that we should cut spending, and increase spending at the same time? Are you sick of politicians using talking points instead of giving us specifics as to what they REALLY would do?

I think her ideas are great in another time in another place. I agree with the need to stay ahead (or atleast caught up) with the rest of the world in technology. BUT holy crap stop the spending already. Every body has a worthy cause. But ya know, I cant donate money I DONT have, neither should they. Governments job is NOT that big. Private sector companies like her own previous company will strive for advances, sheesh that is what a capitalist society does.

I agree with you Laglen, since when did private corporations need government money to function. If the government has to support private corporations doesn't that make them a PUBLIC company?

YES exactly. When car companies need bail outs, they become a public company. I dont want to own a car company nor a bank - well maybe a bank but only as the sole owner!

I think that government spending needs to be prioritized, with pet pork programs cut. It seems that everyone has their own special projects that they support, many of which are not necessary and are wasteful. But, supporting them put campaign funds in the coffers come election time. I would love to see politicians address the specifics of what they support spending money on and why.

I agree with you 100%. I would be nice to hear why these representatives request funds, and who benefits from those funds. We had a representative from my state that spent a lot of time out of the state serving the payday loan people. He helped them get around regulations, and actually wrote regulations that helped them charge mob type interest rates. He never had a problem raising money to run for office!!!
