I and my mom used to have a time deposit account in BDO and last month, we pulled it out and closed the account. Last week I inquired to them about their credit card cause I need it to verify my paypal account. I didn't fill any forms from them for I just talked to a staff. The next day, they sent a credit card that is named to my mom. My mom was surprised to see a credit cad cause she didn't request for it and we didn't have an active account in BDO. Can anyone help me about this? Thanks!

Banks will offer you credit cards if you have a good paying history or investments even in other banks. They communicate with other banks and "mine" potential credit card applyers. I dont know if these banks abandoned their dicrimination againsts OFWs but they still dont approve credit cards so easily so consider this a privilege rather than an annoyance. If your mama dont want it, all she needs to do is ignore the letter and dont activate the credit card.

Hi Jasmin, nice to see you here. About two years ago I was also surprised to have received a pre-approved credit card from BDO. At that time then, and until now, I was a Metrobank credit cardholder. Ok, so I did call a BDO branch to inquire about the pre-approved card and asked why I was being offered when I have no existing account with them. The girl told me that they have personnel who ask from other banks the names of people who has good credit standing or people who maintains a good banking history. I don't really know if this holds true with your mom's case.

My mother went to BDO this afternoon and asked about it. They told my mom the same thing- that they also referrd to other banks...my mom wants it out of her.

This is a way for these banks to entice potential customers like your mom. My wife got a similar offer from another bank and they were very persistent. My wife knew better and she didn't touch the card or whatsoever. I don't think they would go as far as charging you for the card's annual fee as that would violate laws that they can't handle.

Well I think the staff in there mistook it that your mom was the one interested with the credit card. Since she has the records with the bank then they presumed that she is the one that inquired about credit cards. Maybe that was a bit miscommunication in there. Maybe you should return again and you yourself should fill in the form and tell them about that.

I have a credit card from other bank and I also did not apply for it. So far, so good and it has been three years that I have been using my credit card without any hassle. Maybe the pre-approved credit card is the bank's desperate effort to get more clients as people nowadays do have negative connotations when it comes to credit cards because of the exorbitant interest rates.

I always wanted to have a credit card but is just not qualified. Your mom is lucky to be offered without even having an account with them.
