Lord Hanuman - Every Tuesday and Saturday fast can be observed
Hello my friend dio123 Ji, So nice of you for bringing such topic. We Hindus observe fast on many regular and irregular occasions. Just "Sri Krishnajanmashtami' passed yesterday only, millions of Hindus would have observed fast all over the world, including some without even taking water. As a Hindu married Lady with my hubby living, I observe Fast 12 days earlier before Dewali (Karva-Chouth-you may lok into my Avatar), I also kept fast for my Sons recently on 30 August. My hubby kept fast for many years on Tuesday's worshippin Lord Hanuman. It has direct bearing on one's Living and character. i would add following about fasting :- "Why do we fast ?. Most devout, Indians fast regularly or on special occasions like festivals. On such days they do not eat at all, eat once or make do with fruits or a special diet of simple food. Fasing in Sanskrit is called upavaasa, Upa means “near” + vaasa means “to stay”. Upavaasa there fore means staying near (the Lord), meaning the attainment of close mental proximity with the Lord. Then what has to do with the food. ?. A lot of time and energy is spent in procuring food items, preparing, cooking, eating and digesting food. Certain food types make our mind dull and agitated. Hence on certain days man decides to save time and conserve his energy by eating either simple, light food or totally abstaining from eating so that his mind becomes alert and pure. The mind , otherwise pre-occupied by the thought of food, now entertains noble thoughts and stays with the Lord. Since it is self-imposed form of discipline it is adhered to with joy. Also every system needs a break and an overhaul to work at its best. Rest and a change of diet during fasting is very good for the digestive system and the entire body. The more you indulge the senses , the more they make their demands. Fasting helps us to cultivate control over our senses, sublimate our desires and guide our minds to be poised and at peace. Fasting should not make us weak, irritable or create an urge to indulge later. This happens when there is no noble goal behind fasting. The Bagavad – Gita urges us to eat appropriately - neither too less nor too much – yukta- aahaara and to eat simple, pure and healthy food (a saatvik diet) even when not fasting. " May God bless You and have a great time.

yes i do fast. and yes it is good for the body... everyone who says otherwise simply has the wrong idea about fasting. fasting is not about starving one's body, but rather it is about learning to appreciate the things that we have in life. it is about learning about self-control and to also learn about controlling ourselves from being excessively indulgent in anything that we have. fasting has taught me the greater benefits of being patient..and this coming fasting month, i shall fast again

i do fast, but that was before. I could endure not to eat 24 hours in exchange of a special blessing from the Lord. But aside from that, I\t's also a test of how are faithful to the Lord. I only stopped fasting when I had children because fasting is not advisable to nursing mothers. But, I'm planning to try it again.

Although I have heard this has many benefits from many who do this (most fast once or twice a month for 24-48 hrs), I have not tried it. I have gone on a totally liquid diet because of health reasons, etc. But I have never actually tried fasting. I am not quite to the point where I see that I need to try it for any reason. But maybe one day.

No, I don't do it, but I have heard many good things about it, so I would like to try it. There seems to be a lot of different methods though, and I am not sure which one would be the best, so I have not gotten around to it quite yet...

Yes, I occasionally fast and had stopped for a while..I started again a couple weeks ago, fasting from Thur evening to Fri evening..It is too soon to see the health benefits, but I am sure they are there. I also did a Daniel fast a few years ago for 40 days..That was interesting since my meat loving husband and daughter also took part in it. They were real troopers, but since then they haven't done a fast. Though my husband is once again talking about it, so he may start fasting with me again..:)

Yes! I do like fasting a day in a month and I'd learned good thing about it, spiritually and physically. Although I'm an agnostic, I read many religions' doctrines and practices about fasting and all of them go for advantages with various extensions. Fasting is a good practice for those Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) patients.

Fasting does not benefit everybody.. It all depends on what kind of job we are in.. If not, when there's not much food in the body, they might faint during work, due to hunger.. lol =D PLus when one is fasting, they should refrain from vigourous exercises, and thus it's not really suited for althetics and sportsmen.. hehe

I haven’t fasted for a long time because I suffer from hypoglycemia and therefore have low blood sugar and blood pressure so skipping meals would make me feel quite sick and faint. I do appreciate that it would be good to cleanse the system every now and again. I think once a week may be a little too frequent, I would have thought once a month maybe...

Fasting is one way to put our digestive system to rest for a day. That time the body will use it to clean itself up, to rid itself of the accumulated toxins, due to all the excesses we keep heaping on it otherwise. All religions as you have also said specify fasting of some kind. Fasting could be a very great spiritual practice in that it teaches how to rein in your uncontrollable senses. The sense that is most easily tempted is the "taste"(tongue that craves for appeasement once too often. Fasting helps taming this. Further it makes one understand with sympathy what pangs hunger are like and how the millions who do not have evn a square meal a day, live and suffer. One could dedicate one's fast to the hungry millions in prayer.

Fasting? Hi dio 123, actually not the fasting but actually bit of controlled eating i.e. not eating full stomach is I think is better then total fasting, to reap the beneficial value of fasting. On the other hand I never go for fasting,un-till and unless it is been forced upon me by-means of some odd pretext such as during ones marriage rituals etc.One more important point which we should take care of that we should never miss out our Breakfast at any cost. Yes fasting do help us it rejuvenate our life and some way it might be makeing us live longer life. So Fasting your way to live longer!!!

I used to fasting when I was in college. I never do that again after I work. Work make me so tired and I can't be starving while do my job. When I was a student, I there were not many activities to do. Furthermore, when I was a student, if I feel starving, I could sleep or just sit relax watching television. Now, fasting is very hard for me to do. Even though I knew that fasting is good for our health, I am too lazy to do it now. I drink herbal beverage to keep my body healthy and fit.

I use to fast when I had anorexia but it destroys you. No one should ever do it. It screws you up inside and the effects of it come in to play afterword. If you just want to do it to lose weight its not qworth it because you will just gain it back trust me like I said I had anorexia for years and I would fast for weeks and then at the end of the week you would be so hungry that you would binge and then purge. Its an awful life. There are no benefits from fasting no matter what you have heard. Just eat a healthy diet and exercise. That is best.

Well yes, in our religion there is a full month given for fasting, which is known as month of Ramazan. In this month , we fast for full day and eat something only in the evening. And yes, i hav also learned as well as experienced that keeping fast can be very beneficial for our health. It is good for our digestive system too. So one month of fasting regulates our digestive system for the whole year. thanks for this discussion. take care :)

Hi dear, Scientifically, there are several reasons arguing for fasting. The stebilisation of our immune system is regenerated. But before observing the fasting there few formalities and certain logical means to be considered. As you are an Indian, you may be awere various people observe fasting on several reasons mainly on religious and other grounds. I am not advocating on religous reasond, but observing the fasting in periodic times will help our body conditions for a better working. It is my experience and proven fact. But I am not a regular fasting person. Regards, Thank-s
