I love making and drinking fruit shakes and smoothies. Now, If I freeze the chopped fruits when they are in season then I will be able to use them during off season days of the fruit. Isn't that a good idea? Do you use frozen fruits when you make them into a shake or smoothie?

My mother froze a lot of fruit for the winter. Some can be frozen after washing without any more attention. Many need to be frozen with sugar added, and yet others need an additive such as fruit fresh to keep it from turning brown and taste funny. I know there are areas on the net that will explain which and what you will need to do.

Hello Gorilla. Since some fruit seems to go bad before it gets used I usually get frozen fruits except for bananas for my fruit smoothies. So I would say it is OK to freeze your fruits in season. After all freezing doe not alter the nutrition in the fruit. Besides the recipes that I have checked on the web say you can use either fresh or frozen fruit.

I wouldn't try to freeze apples or bananas as they would turn to mush if thaws.

Some people freeze their fruits before making them into smoothies and shakes. Well I think when things are frozen they are preserved just like the mammoth found in cold places where it was frozen for years.

When I was working in a coffee shop we also preparing some fruit smoothies and its ok to put the fruits on fridge as long as it wont take that long maybe 1 week is enough but the most is 2 weeks only. Because even if its inside the fridge it will also look bad.

Fruits expires in days even in the fridge that is why I suggested freezing them. It looked the same when I used frozen strawberries.
