Can an iPod be infected by a virus in the PC?

I just bought a new iPod and downloaded iTunes in my PC. I'm quite hesitant in plugging my iPod to the PC since it's infected by a virus; trojan horse virus to be specific. I've been using free antivirus softwares (Avira and AVG) to remove the virus but unfortunately, none has worked. Would my iPod also get the virus if I plug it in my PC and use iTunes to manage my music library? Has anyone experienced iPod software malfunction because of viruses? Can you also suggest a way to remove this virus? As much as possible, I would not like to reformat my computer so suggestions of getting rid of this virus are very much welcome.

Depends on the virus. Trojan viruses are no use if you're not connected to the internet cuz they only operate the commands of a remote user. Although, yes, an ipad or ipod can be infected by a virus and it's hard to clean up, mind you.
