Friends, no doubt a dog is the most faithful animal on this earth, not only for its master but for all. Even mylot uses dog picture in start a discussion under ‘friends’. If you give a piece of bread to a dog one day, it will remember you, and it will move its tail on seeing you. In our national language, Hindi a dog is called ‘kutta’ and a ‘bitc.h’ as ‘kutti’. But when some women fight, they address each other as ‘kutti’, a woman was calling her husband as ‘kutta’ and her mother in law as ‘kutti; I felt real bad, and started this discussion. Why the most faithful animal’s name should be used as a bad-name for scolding and fighting? Do people in your place call a man ‘dog’ while fighting? Please respond Professor

dear professor, i agree that indeed dogs are the most loyal of all the pets. it just happens sometimes that when experiencing anger, they tend to have the satisfaction of naming names using animals. its like a way of degrading the other party. have a nice day. ann

You know, I definitely never thought about things that way, but you've brought up a very valid point here. It is true that here a woman will call a man that doesn't treat her right a "dog" and they also refer to each other as a "b.itch" when they don't get along. I guess the reason that this is done because though dogs are the most faithful to people, when they fight amongst themselves, it does seem that they never fight fairly.

im not going to say the B word, but yes, and ive heard it so many times, its like ive come accustom to it. when people call me it to try to hurt my feelings, i laugh, smile and tell them thank you bc i take that as a compliment. eventually it just gets old.

I disagree sir, any animal can be faithful as long you take good care of it and how you treat it.

Lady & The Tramp - Disney's Lady and The Tramp
We mainly speak in English and the same thing happens here, during a fight men are called dogs and women are often referred to as B.itche.s.I am from the Indian community in South Africa and very often these terms are also used in Hindi,Tamil and Telegu.Of course this thing happens in many parts of the world.

yes..i agree with you...this animal is taken both as good as well as in bad words...but as we know its qualities..it is really a faithful animal...and should not be used in fights as bad words....today is the last day of pitrupaksha as u know...and we also give food for cow and dog ...to get the blessings of elders...so why the worship on one hand and using as bad words on the other hand?...

it is probably because when dogs are rabid they go berserk. probably the reason why. but dogs are wonderful and loyal pets. i prefer them over cats.

May be the object is to calm the person by giving him or her due respect. Good discussion professor. Wonder why animal right activists do not consider suing people for such insulting comparisons.

I definitely agree with you! Dogs are the most faithful and loyal friends a man could have. I really like having dogs in our house because I like it when they're really excited whenever I get home and they jump at me enthusiastically. It makes me feel special somewhat. What I also like about them is that they're really possessive, they don't want anyone they don't know near they're owner. Even if you're not the appreciative type of owner, they would still react excitedly to even your smallest gestures to them. I have no problem with people calling other people 'dogs' when they fight though. Yeah it's not nice, but I don't think dogs are offended. As long as they aren't hurt or treated badly, then I'm fine with them. Men could call each other dogs all they want.

agree with you, dog is good in their faithful manner to its master, but has their some bad attitude too, they bite for their masters they howling, and they talk too much that is why people who talk too much angry too much and screaming for nothing is called something like what you described, and to tell you the truth I hate dog... grrr... i like the way of bird life. happy lotting

Yes dog is the most faithful animal on this earth. However, when someone uses those hindi slang like "Kutta", "Kutti", they actually dont understand why it is used. I think it is one of the common slang used in India and of-course in western countries as well when women refer to other ladies to insult them. It is very hard to find out the exact reason for using these words. Lets hope that someone from myLot will perhaps come with reasonable explanation here.

Dog and b*tch are derogatory in English also, but then a lot of animal names are. Pig - somebody who is dirty or fat or eats too much. Cow - a fat woman. Catty - somebody who is b*tchy. Snake - a sneaky liar. I suspect it has something to do with people looking down upon animals and considering them to be lesser beings, even dogs.

hahaha! the relation you did to the name and personality is interesting. sometimes dogs become crazy, too so maybe it's not that bad to associate the word, too. =)
