I am going to India, what should I know about the people

I am going to India. I am a woman and want to know what should I know before going over there. Should I address men or should I always have my head down. Should I walk behind my husband. Should I keep my head covered? What are some of the culture things that I should know?

it seems when they pan their headview sideways repeatedly they are actually "affirming" something .... I am used to seeing a nodding (headview pan up-down) as affirmation ... the sideways movement seems to me like negation .... Is it just me ? What do you think ?

Im not really knowledgeable about the culture in India but I would love to go there my self. To see their rich unique culture and beliefs. I dont think tough that they are that strict.
