In some countries, the rules of the school include wearing of uniforms. Parents have to buy a few sets of uniforms for their children. Some companies also require the workers to wear uniform. A very common example is the security service. Most security guards wear a certain uniform to indicate that they are on duty. Do you like to wear uniforms? You may have to wear them in school or at work. If you are looking for job, would you like a job that requires you to wear uniforms?

Hi Majorroald, I think you will get a cultural shock if you ever migrate over to Asian countries. Over here, the culture is still of group, rather than individuals. Even in the workplace, there is a certain standard required of the employees. Dress code is part of the written rules. If we were caught dressing wrongly, we could get warning letter or dismissal for insubordination.

I prefer wearing uniform in work, right now I am working somewhere where I dont need to wear uniform but in most of my jobs I have had to wear uniform. I think you look more professional in uniform and it also makes things easier on a morning, you dont have to spend time working out what to wear as you already know what you have to wear!

Hi Auntiescarf, try to work in those hotels with casinos. The inhouse rule is very strict. The management does not allow anyone to bring the uniform back home, just in case the employees try to smuggle chips out from the company. That is why the management provides the washing and ironing service.

Hi Auntiescarf, if the uniform is comfortable, I would like it very much. Most hotels even wash the uniforms for the staff, so that the employees do not have to worry about wearing the appropriate dress for work. They do not have to take the uniform back home, and they can come to work in casual wear. I like this arrangement better.

That sounds like a very good arrangement! Which hotels are these? Might look for a job there lol! Anything that saves me washing and ironing!

Hi Yugasini, I think the practice of wearing uniforms is more common in Asia than Europe and US. I doubt those in the US or Europe like the idea of wearing school uniforms or wear uniforms at work. It is right to say that wearing uniform is a kind of recognition and branding on the part of the company. It is also a form of team building.

While I can admit that uniforms have their place in society I do not like wearing them. They are not always comfortable and they are rarely attractive.

Hi Canellita, I hate to wear uniforms as well. While I like the fact that wearing uniforms means cost saving, since you do not have to worry about what to wear, and keep on buying new clothes, I still do not like to wear uniforms. I do not mind if the official uniform comes in the form of T-shirt and jeans. I like the casual wear.

I chose my clothing to suit my personality and what I wear on a given day depends on the mood I am in and where I have to be that day. If I have three appointments and one of them is a business meeting I dress up. Most of the time I choose my clothes for comfort.

if i were in the military - yeah. about other jobs - i don't know. i haven't done any job that requires me to wear uniforms. in school we wore uniforms. in fact we wore shorts till the 8th standard! it was only during the final two years of our seven-year stay at the school that we got to wear trousers. my friends back home used to mock at me when i told them we wore shorts. no one wore or wears shorts back home. i was glad we were in a residential school where people from the outside world don't notice us. it was only us, the teachers, staffs, wardens, etc. within our huge, walled campus.

Hi Junil, your boarding school sounds very much like a jail, with a large compound, and walled campus, and no contact with outside world. There are actually more jobs with uniforms than without the uniforms. The pilots, the air stewardess, the cashier in supermarket and other shops, the sales assistants in big metro, many staff in hotels, all the staff in Japanese companies and factories, the workers in shipyard and construction companies etc. Those workers in shipyards do not really wear uniforms. Theirs is the overalls, which can protect them from the oil and dust.

I really want to have uniforms so I don’t have any problems of choosing what to wear to work everyday. We used to have uniforms in my previous company and they give us new sets and designs yearly. Unfortunately most of them doesn’t fit me well, so I still have to spend some money for a seamstress to adjust them. Still I still want to have uniforms.

Hi Sweet_pea, if the company provides uniform in the form of T-shirts, then I will enjoy it very much. Too bad the production people have overalls, and T-shirts, but office people do not have. I think it saves money, as well saving us headache about what to wear to work. The best is to have laundry service in the company as well.

Wearing uniforms saves you from having to decide what to wear or the embarrassment of repeating the clothes you wear often if you don't have enough.

Hi Silentwill, uniform saves us a lot of money too. The company pays for the uniforms, and we do not have to buy so many clothing for work. The best is when the company pays for the uniform, and wash the uniforms for us. In this case, we do not have to worry about washing, ironing, and selecting what to wear or what is more appropriate for work.

The advantage to wearing a uniform I found, was it saved time. In the morning there is no need to think what to wear, or if someone wear the same outfit. It also makes people realize that their clothes do not define them as people. The disadvantages depend on how strict the dress code is, is that it tends to be a little boring always wearing the same thing. People keep their individuality but it is expressed in their character rather then what they wear, but generally people who have to wear uniforms will be a little more extravagant out of uniform, wearing wilder clothes.

Hi Leeloo, uniforms not only save time, it saves us a lot of money as well. If we have uniforms, we do not have to buy two sets of clothing, one for work, and one for leisure wear. The best is when the company, such as the hotel, washes and irons the uniforms too. That is a great time saver and money saver. We can go to work in casual wear, and just change in the dressing area in the company.

i think its a rationale, for those people that were required wearing uniform to prefer working without uniform as they can show their fashionable way of clothing. and for those that uniform are not required, prefer wearing uniform to work as they can save money for they don't have to buy lots of clothes for work. i'm this kind of person. :D

Hi Annein, I think when the uniform is in the form of comfortable T-shirt, then everyone loves it. They do not have to spend money on buying new clothes or thinking about matching shoes and bags or whatever. If the whole company wears the same type of uniform, that is even better. From ceo down to the lowest ranking staff, everyone wears the same thing.

Hi Abhaijith, this is the first time I heard of college requiring students to wear uniforms. Most colleges do not have this requirement, since they know that students at this age likes free expression in term of choices. Most colleges have very lax dress code. The only requirement is to wear decently, and not too much exposure of the body.

I like wearing uniforms as long as it's nice or cute. Like the stewardees uniforms, they looks cute and the pilots(ohhh i love those men in uniforms..only cute ones hahaha) I work in a place that doesn't requires a uniforms, but formal dresses. And for me it's good enough so i can wear my clothes than hanging in my closets. Have a great weekend ahead

Hi Jaiho, I do not know which airlines have cute uniforms. I only know that the airline of my country, the Singapore Airlines, does not have cute uniforms. The uniforms are very uncomfortable, since those uniforms follow the shape of the body, and are very tight and uncomfortable. In the event of emergency, I think those air stewardess cannot run fast. I do not mind uniforms as long as these are T-shirt material with company logo. I think that is more practical.

Wearing a uniform is more professional and decent for me. I would like to go to the office wearing uniform because lesser cost in dress and pants also. Unfortunately our office do not have uniforms so we have to wear all the dress in our closet until all of them are used and we have to repeat it again.

Hi Junmae, I like to work in an office with uniforms too, as long as the uniforms are not uncomfortable. I hate to spend money on clothing. I have no choice since most workplaces do not provide uniforms for office staff. They only have uniforms for the lower levels, such as the cleaners and the security guards, and the workers in the factory.

I didn't like wearing school uniforms. I only wore them from elementary till high school. Never got to wear one when I was in the University and even when I went to work. I think I was just lucky to have found a job where uniforms are not required. It's uncomfortable for me and I'd like to express myself more in the clothes that I wear.

Hi Toniganzon, I do not like school uniforms either. When I was young, the school uniforms are really hot, stuffy and stupid. Nearly all the schools in the country follow the same design in school uniforms, which make students looked really stupid. Now is better, since students can choose the design that they like, and the school listens to the students. I think when a work place does not have strict dress code, and we can wear whatever we want, that is best.

Hi Dhanakool, I think you have enough school uniforms to open a shop selling just school uniforms in this case. I have not heard of sunday school as in mainstream education environment, since I assume that everyone studies five days a week. I like a working environment that requires casual wear too. Personally I hate an environment with very stringent dress code, especially when the dress code does not take into consideration the local climate. The dress code in many western countries is not applicable in tropical region. I think we can get heat stroke if we follow the same thing.

Hi Dheerajlko, I think if the whole company wears the same type of uniforms, then there is equality. However, in most cases, only the lower level wears uniform. I mean in hotels, you can see the front desk staff, the cleaners, the security guards, and other minimum wage workers wear uniform, you do not see the top management at all. These are the ones least likely to put on any type of uniform.
