In small towns this is especially devastating and eventuality the only jobs that are left are actually working at the Walmart which offers min wage and little to no benefits and no pension I for one am against Walmart and think that they are buying their goods to cheep and making the life of the Chinese and people in North America miserable. Is getting 10% or so off from products really worth all the madness that is caused from this?I hope something is done to rid Walmart of the face of the earth , but am highly optimistic our Capitalistic society will change any time soon.

Don't be mad at just Walmart for doing this! Kmart, McDonalds, and Walgreens are all guilty of the same thing. International capitalism is winning. Before Perkins came along we had to big pancake/breakfast joints near us. Perkins tells them they want to buy them out and open a Perkins on their property. If they don't sell to them Perkins is just going to build across the street from them. It's capitalism, it's legal, it's just immoral. But these people hide behind the corporate wall saying to themselves, I am personally not to blame because it's the corporation doing this. A panel of officers of the company make these decisions.

Unfortunately, Walmart is here to stay and expand...and expand...and expand some more.
Near where I live in Virginia, there is a battle going on trying to prevent Walmart from building near a Civil War battlefield. Even Robert DuVall has publicly stepped up to lend his support against Walmart building at Wilderness.
But here's the catch, the residents in the area want the Walmart. Even though Walmart was finally granted permission to build, the battle rages on and they have not broken ground yet.
I have visited the Wilderness battlefield many times, and I would prefer not to have to fight Walmart traffic to get to it or hear the noisy hum of shoppers in the background while I roam the historic grounds. But...well...we'll see what happens.

in the philippines, in my area i think we welcome this big business establishments to set up near small business. just because there is not much small businesses around the community that can meet or supply the needs of the community here. and so having big establishments do not really impose a big threat on small businesses here. after all small businesses around here like small stores tend to sell some things you can't find in bigger groceries. and sometimes buying in small stores a few items is more convenient for me than to buy in big groceries. but for hard to find grocery items like olive oil, and other things like that it is preferable to buy in big groceries. as small groceries in the area don't sell too many expensive items like olive oil. they tend to sell cheaper items or local items only.

Fortunatley we aren't experiening that same situation where I live, there are a few Walmarts, but not that many. I am surprised to hear that Walmart doesn't offer the employee benefits, I was aware of the minimum wage, but not about the benefits.
Unfortunately, for the time being I don't think that eliminating or getting rid of Walmart is an option reason being is because their demand is to high and people actually like to shop there at least where I live, the store is always packed and parking is a mess. I don't know how it is where you are at, but I think something should definitely be addressed when it pertains to benefits and better pay.
