SOOO sick of all the complaints about walmart

There have been so many completely asnine complaints that I've heard about walmart online and even in my business classes. Honestly, I feel that if people took the time to do some research on the subject, they would find that many people (millions) would be distraught to lose this company. Let's see, some of the absurd arguements that I have heard go from workers not getting paid enough, not getting enough benefits and my favorite, that they drive the mom and pop businesses out. WalMart is one of the highest employing companys that there is and they even provide benefits to the majority of their part time workers which most companys don't even bother with. As for the mom and pop companys, have you ever heard of healthy competition. Maybe they weren't providing enough or charging far too much. (I know thats the case around here.) Regardless of that, WalMart offers small businesses in the area workshops on how to stay competitive and bring in profits before they even establish themselves in an area.

I absolutely agree with you when you say that people should research companies before they open their mouths--too many people just talk these days. But when you mention WalMart putting mom and pop shops out of business, it is true. However, the people who complain about them going out of business, while shopping at WalMart, are really to blame. It is not about their prices, at least not always, but mom and pop shops cannot offer customers tires, clothing, AND food, like WalMart can. So from my research, and experience, I agree with many of your points, especially about WalMart being a substantial employer--people have jobs when WalMart makes money. Only other thing I can think of has to do with labor issues...

Hi Angel, I have to agree with Pitgull's answer on this. I have read up on Walmart. Yes, they do put the small local business's out of business. The small business actually does have higher prices. It isn't because they are charging to much and that they can just lower their prices to compete with a giant like Walmart. It wouldn't work. They simply can't get the wares for the same retail price as Walmart who buys in such huge quantities. There is just no way that a small local business could compete with the prices that Walmart can offer. When they moved to my town, they knocked out several business's and even a couple that had fairly decent prices. Their prices were lower than low and everyone flocked to Walmart. Then when all the competition was gone, hmmm...Walmart's prices started creeping up.
