Mom's Surgery Went Well But....

Thank you all for your prayers for my mom's surgery or what ever you want to call it. She had to have the two stints removed from her kidneys and new ones put in. She was put in a twilight sleep but could still feel the tugging and pulling so she told the doctor so and he gave her more medication to help her sleep and said that he'd put her under if he had to and mom was terrified that that was the last she'd see anybody but thank God the doctor didn't have to but he did say that more sleep aid was used than the last two times but it did finally take. Then she had to wait in her room till she was able to go to the bathroom. Poor mom tried three times all the while drinking apple juice and coffee and still, her bladder wouldn't let go so they had to cathederize her and send her home with it. She goes back to her doctor tomorrow in hopes to have it removed but don't know if she'll be able to go to the bathroom. So that said, prayers are still needed!! She doesn't want to end up with a catheder for the rest of her life nor does she want to end up with a bag on her side. Her bladder has fallen so far down that one can see it. I have and wonder how she can live with it like that but she hasn't a choice because she can't be put under to have surgery to fix it. It's a big mess of medical problems that nothing can be done about it but hopefully tomorrow morning she'll be able to go to the bathroom. Hopefully! Thanks again all of you!! We all really appreciate your prayers and caring!!

I'll continue to pray, I don't blame your mom one bit for not wanting to go through life with a catheter or bag for life..

(For the most part, copy and paste) I just talked to mom and she's so depressed. She went to the doctor this morning and they removed the catheder and still her bladder wouldn't let go. They sent her home and told her to drink all the liquid she can and maybe it'll MAKE her bladder work. Since she's been home, she's drank two cups of coffee, a half a glass of water and her nutritional drink, still, it won't work and she's miserable. She's to return at 4:30 and if she hadn't urinated by then, they're going to catherize her again and are talking about putting a bag on her side. She's not too happy about that. Mom's sister had her bladder fixed or put back 17 times and it's fallen yet again and now has this device in her back that she's had for roughly 6 months and it's suppose to control her bladder so she won't leak or full out wet herself like she has been doing. She told my mom that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It's like a pace maker, it has a battery and is programed. She has to go back and have it reprogramed in hopes that it'll work. Mom said she'd be damned if she'll go through that. She's rather have a bag on her side than to have to constantly have to be cut open to change the battery every so many years. You know, maybe it's a good thing I didn't have kids. I still wish I could have but maybe it's a good thing I don't because it's the main cause of why their bladders have fallen besides lifting heavy things. I try my best not to lift anything heavy so that I don't pull mine down and I do exercise that area to keep it up inside me but we can only do so much. Now I'm watching the weather outside my own house, it's getting dark and the winds are picking up and when I talked to mom the winds were really starting to pick up and the sky got real dark so we knew the storm was moving in but I sure hope it passes when she has to go back to her doctor because I don't want either her or dad driving in it. *sigh. Why is life so deg gone hard? I don't expect you to answer that but I did have to ask. grrrrr

Awww I know life can be rough Cats, but hang in there, and try to remember, it is always the darkest before the dawn. I don't know where you live, do you live near Joplin Mo? If so, keep an eye out, even though I am in Ohio, those storms continue to move east, we got hit hard last night and they are predicting more tonight. May you and your family stay safe, and I'll pray for your mom so she doesn't have to go out in that horrible weather...

No thank God but I live in North Carolina, just under the Virginia border and my parents are in Virginia, just above the North Carolina line. We're about a 30 minute drive apart. It's supposed to rain and thunder all week, off and on. Hopefully this nasty stuff will disapate before hitting anyone else. Joplin Mo is too much meaning, one time is too much. I feel SO sorry for those people! I know the feeling that they're going through since having a tornato hit us when we were in Texas and a near hit later on but went over us and over a large hill behind us and hit the town of Gerald or something like that. It happened on the 27th of May and killed 27 people. I'll never forget that. The whole town was flattened. Even the asphalt, bark off the trees and foundations were torn up. It was so unreal.

Wishing her the very best. Maybe by morning things will be better. I sure hope so. Doesn't seem fair when a person has soooo many bad things going on/

Hi Jo, no it's not fair, not at all. I've been told that we come into this world as babies needing care and most of us return to the baby like state needing care. Sad it is indeed. People who die before that happens to them are very lucky in my eyes. They don't have to go through the torment of getting old. Anyway, I just talked to mom and she's so depressed. Sadly I don't have an answer for that cats! I am so sorry your poor mother is going through this, no wonder she's depressed! Who wouldn't be under such circumstances? The only thing we can do at times like these is pray a lot and hang in there. Easier said than done, I know but these times are truly sent to test us. Take care, keep us posted on your mum's condition. I'm still praying....

I will pray that your Mom gets well soon. I also have a Mom who's having trouble with her bladder. We took her to the doctor and we're glad that the kidneys are alright but not the bladder. WE have a lengthy discussions with the doctor explaining every details what's her condition. We prayed hard that it is not that bad. Thanks heaven, she has normal kidneys and has to take oral medications for her bladder infection. I just hope your mother will survive this one and let us all pray for her quick recovery.

It's not easy seeing our mothers go through what they do but we also know it's a fact of life especially when nearing the end. It just seems everything just falls apart either all at once or one at a time. Bless both of our mothers!

Tell them to ask their gyn doctor the next time they go in for a pap smear! Their doctor will tell them hard heads and maybe then they'll learn something and hopefully before it's too late. My mom was pregnant 7 times but only 3 of us lived which is a lot of her reason for her bladder problems. My aunt had 3 but she's highly obese which is her problem and of course between them both, they lifted heavy things through their younger lives but back then, they didn't know better. Sweetie, May God Bless and Care for YOU TOO!!

Oh I am so sorry. What a burden for her and worry for you. My Mom always told me not to lift very heavy things because it can cause the bladder to fall..that and having large, heavy babies. I have told many people the same and all of them laughed at me saying that was simply not true. I am glad you are being careful. You all are in my prayers. I wish I knew why things like that happened and why we have the tough challenges in life that we are dealt. It's easy to say 'for growth', but when in the midst of things, one wants to scream "enough growth!" God Bless and care for all of you.

Could they do laparoscopic surgery on her using an epidural? She'd be awake but the bottom half of her body would be asleep just like it was for those of us who had an epidural to give birth and to have our tubes tied. I would think that they could go in with a laparoscope and secure the bladder into the correct position and she wouldn't have to fear being totally under anesthesia. She'd feel the tugging, but that's all. Best of luck to you and your mom.

I am glad that the procedure went as well as it did. I wouldn't worry too much about the catheter. With as much medication that they had to use, the bladder just hasn't come back from its 'relaxation'. Still praying for all of you.

Bladder suspension procedures often do not last very long. It's actually not the bladder itself that is faulty, it is the muscles that hold the bladder in place that get weak. And there is really no reliable surgery to re-elasticize muscles. My mother had a prolapsed bladder. She was 85 and did not even want to try any kind of procedures. I don't know how she lived with it as long as she did. I do know that she wore tight girdles and spandex pants a lot. She had to be uncomfortable. Hope your mom got some relief. I know how miserable it feels when you have a full bladder and can't do anything to get relief.

Hi yoyo, you obviously know a bit about this subject, don't you? Do you work in the medical field or close to someone who does? I try my best not to lift anything heavy so that I don't pull mine down and I do exercise that area to keep it up inside me but we can only do so much. I'm going to be starting a new discussion, an update on my mom which is a good one so be on the lookout. lol

It might just be swelling. That's hard on the area to go through pulling and tugging. Take care.
