I am from Philippines and if you ask Filipinos if they have a chance to travel into another country, where do they want to go.. Mostly their answer would be in USA.. I have nothing against USA, but personally, I think there are many countries that are more interesting to visit. What can you say about that?

Being that I was born and raised in the USA, I can say I enjoy it very much. However, I can think of a lot of places I do not mind exploring and or seeing what it is like. That being said, I have to imagine that those who have never lived and or visited the USA maybe want to see what it is like and or were told it could be great for them. This reminds me of the straight haired people wanting curly hair, while the curly haired people want straight hair. See the correlations, to see what it is like or try something different. lol

HWG -- Yes. this only confirms the saying "the other man's wife is always beautiful". We have a saying in Tamil -=- and I am sure there must be something similar to this in this place also --- "When you look at the other side of river it always appear to be greenery from this side of the river." In reality the other side of the river need not have greenery to an extent that is seen by the person on the first side. have a good day.

I am just listing out the possible reasons. You may agree with a few of them at least: 1) USA has earned reputation as leader of the world on account of Hiroshima, Nagasaki bombings in 1945. This of course, USA resorted to after Japan bombing Pearl Harbour in USA. 2) it is one of the large countries with weather conditions tolerable by asian people also. (Russia is very very cold and many areas are inhabitable) 3) Economically it was considered sound earlier -- Conversion of dollar into local currencies of various countries helped them buy assets in their native place. Now of course relatively saving capacity has come down because prices have risen and salaries have not risen accordingly. 4) English being language of communication and that is known to Asians. -- People will find it difficult to go to Germany, Spain and other countries where they talk mostly in their languae. have a good day.

I think Hollywood influence should be on the top of that list

Hollywood influence is not for the common masses. Common people come for earning their bread to make a living and save some extra money. Only one in one lakh may be coming for Hollywood. have a good day.

The first item you mentioned happened 65 yeas ago. I don´t think it´s valid anymore. Second, except for some States, the United States doesn´t have a mild climate. I would recommend the Caribbean There it is an asset to know English. Third, there are many countries where it is easier to work and easier to be accepted than in the United States. In the US, people earn better salaries, but the expenses are VERY high so there´s no posibility of saving at all. Fouth, English is spoken in many places besides the US.

Sorry if you are offended, but I did say "I have nothing against USA". Yes there are nice places to visit in the USA, but they are too far away from each other! I would understand it more if they will say specific places in US, like "I wanna go to Cali, or NY, Miami, Nevada etc..." but they just always say "I want to go to USA". USA is so big! Most Filipinos DREAMS of being in US.

Well... americans left the best expression on us Filipinos in the past. They did help us in a lot of ways and most filipinos are influenced by the americans since WW2 and that grew in the present day. Plus the rising of the US economy against the fall of RP economy makes us all want to go to the US. Also, the success of America in modern times (as rome in the past) plus the success stories of most kababayans from the USA makes us all eager to go to the States. As an American friend of mine would say "everything is good in America". So with all these factors plus the worsening situation of the Philippines, most are eager to go to the US.

Because they still think that USA is a country of lots of opportunities. I once went there and realized that it might be true cause most of the native there did not want to work in the low level jobs and leave those works to foreign workers... but you know that there are lots of job in the low level than there are job in the higher level...

I think your right my friend (kababayan), going USA Filipino mentality are lots of opportunity, learn more, open country. The proof are there whose went there are back to Philippines with golden arm and full of pocket, so other aim and purposely want to go there some day... Even some other Asian countries like India and Pakistan which USA limited their accepting nationality for them because of over population... see you around

absolutely right.... Filipino's are very proud because they claim they are INDEPENDENT but want to work in America to be DEPENDENT their dollar salary to the whites.... if Filipino's want to be dependent, then American's are the job workers and the Filipino are the boss can this be happen?

haha well must be the great american dream.. remember it was USA, USA, and USA that has helped gave our freedom and maybe that is why people think that if you go to their country you are in for a better life, better things, better surroundings.. without even trying to consider other places.

Visiting other countries is really interesting in all means of way. Either USA, Europe or near countries in Asia. Its matter of choices, interest and belief or things they like to see on the countries what they have chosen.

Filipino's always want to be independent and if you as them, most of the Filipinos doesn't need the help of Foreigners, that's the reason why they celebrating their Independence Day.... but they don't notice that in the Immigration Center, the Filipino's have a full determination to form a long line hoping that their passport will not be marked as "denied" by the console in the immigration.... full of protest saying "NO TO FOREIGNERS" but majority wants to migrate in America if given a free chances.... for me, if not by Philippine Independence... Philippines is one of the 51st State of America like Hawaii or Philippines is a part of Japan Country like Okinawa and when having a good foundation... that's that time to be independent... like those of Hong Kong

Most people feel that USA is a land of opportunities. They forget that opportunities are everywhere. I remember a book by 'Kim Woo Chong' who was the top boss at Daewoo. It is titled 'All Roads are paved with Gold'. Its a wonderful book which shows you that opportunities are everywhere. It is an individual's wish whether he wants to take them or not. Going to USA is not a solution. It is one of the several options. Even if you go there, it does not mean that you will be successful.

definitely you are right, most of the Filipino's they want to go to USA, actually me also but because of many reason's, most of my family and relatives, friends was there so i can easily cope up and found a job there, as we know USA was powerful country as we compare to other countries, and also there are lot of opportunities in USA when we talked about the job, most filipino's easily found the opportunities in that country compare to europe ,not only filipino's wants to go to america also some people who came from middle east country, europe people they want also ...before there economy was good now a days some Filipino's they preferred to go to CANADA, AUSTRALIA

It is very common. People all want to live in a better place. This is why more people want to live in the big city rather than a countryside. USA is a developed country and it is powerful for the economy, military, politics and so on. And USA stands for the freedom and many people look forward to fulfilling their dreams in this free land. I love China

Personally, I'd go for anywhere in Europe like Italy perhaps. You know very well the situation here in our country. People who want a better future for their families go abroad to work. I was told that a lot of foreigners are angry at us because we are stealing their jobs. True but employers are just choosing whoever fits the job regardless of their nationality. I suppose apart from a better chance of finding work, communication is easy for those who are fluent in English, and I guess it's also because of what we see on television and the movies. Almost everybody wants to be where there are limitless possibilities.
