Think about the hot dogs....

How about, after years of complaints as to 10 hotdogs in a package but only 8 hot dog buns in a package...why the two have not done something about this? Either the dogs take one away or the buns add 2 more (which would be the more practical one and I think the one most preferred). Does anyone listen anymore?

Not sure where you live, but here in Northern Ca, hotdogs and the buns come in packages of 8. No longer are we left with one or the other at the end. Unless someone chooses to eat the hotdogs without the bun. Weird that that it would be like that everywhere, maybe it's the brands I buy, although I buy 2 different brands depending on funds, lol.

Ok after getting into an argument with my husband and brother last night (they also were saying 8 and 10) I went to the store to see. I purchase 2 brands depending on finances. Ball Park Franks and Bar S, both have 8 hotdogs in a package. Oscar Myer has 10 but they are packaged in 2 pkgs of 5 each. So different brands, package differently, I have been buying Ball Parks for years and they have had 8 in a package. Last night I thought I was loosing my mind, what with your response and hubby and brother. Bar S I rarely buy so not sure how long they have had 8 in a package. Check out those brands the next time you shop. I would be very interested to know if they are the same where you are.

I only buy Farmer John. I know HD's are junk food, and I limit myself to them, but the "junk" Farmer John ones, (meaning NOT the all beef ones) are the absolute best. Yes, the dogs have 10 dogs, and the buns are 8. I bought Jennie O turkey ones for my grand kids and it was 10 dogs, 8 buns. Just one of those annoying things in life!

Not sure where you see this at. Ever since i have been boring in the 80's i have only seen packages of 8 hot dogs unless buying in bulk and then 8 packs of hot dogs buns unless buying those in bulk as well. Even buying in bulk they will sell in increiments on 8 so your buying the correct hot dogs as well. Im not sure waht your talking about at all because i have never seen this in my life at all. Maybe you are not from the United States or something and thing are different where you are.

@ logogirl, Oscar Meyer comes in packages of 10 hotdogs, they come with 2 pkgs of 5 hotdogs. The 2 brands that I buy also come with only 8 hotdogs in a pkg. The main one that I buy has been like that for many years. I do remember when I was a kid that wasn't always so. My mother would complain about the conspiracy of the hotdog and bun manufacture's conspiring against the public, lol. I live in Northern Ca, and coffeebreak lives in Southern Ca. I think its the brands. In fact I think that Ball Park has a 6 pack pkg, of longer hotdogs. I could be mistaken but will look when I go to the store again.

Funny thing is...we are ALL going to be counting dogs and buns next time we go to the grocery!!!!!LOL!!!! But I only buy Farmer John dogs..the junk ones... not the beef ones. I don't buy them often as I know they are junky, but they taste the absolute best!!! And they are 10 in a package. I just bought some Jennie O turkey ones for the kids and they were 10 in a package....and still 8 buns! And then there is the foot long dogs...5 in a package and NO buns!!!!

This thought made me laugh. Have you seen Father Of The Bride, with Steve Martin? (1991) He asks the exact same question, only it's 8 hot dogs, and 12 hot dog buns. Up here in Canada, we're able to get 12 hot dogs, and 12 hot dog buns. We get 12 hamburger buns too, but we never buy burgers. My husband makes really good homemade Serbian burgers, here at home.

@ Danish, this discussion reminded be of that scene also. That was a funny scene, and reminded me from when I was a kid my mother would complain about the ridiculousness' of the buns and hotdogs not being equal.

Hamburger buns are only 8 here in Southern California. I don't mind that as I can do 4 now and 4 later. It is just the hotdog thing. Granted it, if I get them grilled on the charcol grill I wlll eat the last 2 dogs without a bun just so I don't waste food and then "diet" tomorrow.

I sometimes don't bother with the buns either if it is just me. I will use a slice of bread...less bread so less calories!!!

You are so right about this! A hamburger bun can be used for other things, like sloppy joe's or whatever, but really the hot dog buns should match the hot dog packages. No, I don't think they listen. But wait, Del Taco listened because now they have mini-milkshakes for $1 (on Taco Tuesdays)and they are good! Just right for someone who wants just a little sugar fix and doesn't want to pay $2.79 and then throw half of it away.

Didn't know that... I will have to check that out! I don't usually do ice cream at fast food, but today...did. Weinerschnitzel...got a large dipped cone. I didn't think it'd be a large as it was and it all melted when they dipped it in the warm chocolate...and then just melted more as I ate it...and had to ask for a cup! And then...did toss about half of it!

It's a marketing scheme. That way you buy more buns and then more hot dogs...etc.

I so agree with you! :) That will always make you buy more hot dog buns, which in turn will need more hotdogs and so on LOL Believe it or not, there are a lot of things like that and we're so used to them that we don't even notice we've been taken.Oh well....

Yeah, but it will never match up. I will buy enough dogs for all and then be short on the buns as I and many, will eat a grilled dog plain with no bun, but not to much use for left over buns! I have used them tho as an "italian" bread....brush them with butter, then parmarsean cheese and grill and have with spaghetti. That works, but just odd that the makers can't be nice!

I don't get it. Why would you burn 2 hotdogs when you can cook them all up nicely?

LOL a never ending question my friend. As it is the same by me. Where we have either two left over hot-dogs or 6 left over buns because then we have to buy another package of hot-dog buns. My thoughts is that that want us to buy two hot-dog packages and two bun packages too. There really is no other explanation as to why the uneven amounts here. I have never seen 10 hot dog bun in a pack, no matter where I have bought them. So it is like a repeat cycle to get us to keep buying.

Yeah, they got us, dont' they! I will eat a plain dog if it is grilled on charcoal, and I will use bread instead of a bun, so granted, it is not to much an issue with me, but still...when I have family over...it does bother me as I don't "match". I always buy equal dogs and buns, and then have the left over dogs next day with bread. But still...why don't they just make them match!

LOL it is funny, but i am saying that hotdogs are rabish and a bad food, and buns have a lot of calories so why thinking about it any way? :)

I know dogs are not very healthy. THat is why I don't have them often...and when I do it is for a family function with kids and all kids like dogs and it is just an American "tradition" like baseball... you know... "baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet". Easy to make, eat and no mess! And I don't "worry" about it, just one of those things that are odd that you might "wonder" about..just for the sake of an oddity! I also wonder why people text as the walk across a street full of traffic...
