Spammer loose on RedGage today

I very rarely flag anyone anywhere, but a one-hour old newbie on RedGage seems to have joined just to leave spam comments. I had just uploaded four new items -- my spider picture and three articles. I was happy to see notifications that I had comments on them and thought it they would be from my usually loyal friends. Nope. Every since comment was the same series of links selling shoes. I flagged all four comments. I checked the profile. He or she had joined an hour earlier -- had no friends and had uploaded no content. Why do people think this will help them make sales? What mentality does this?

This must be happening all the time although these spammers know that they will be reported. Suffice however they are seen and sometimes it does work for them the reporting notwithstanding! It happens even here in myLot. The links would be posted and by the time the discussion is deleted enough number would have seen the links and even capitalised on them!

Well, so it appears to be a right strategy to make some people pay some visits to the site then. lol.

Unfortunately, those spammers are almost everywhere. It's ridiculous! They ought to know that people are going to get so annoyed at their actions, that they're not going to bother visiting whatever website they are promoting! What is your user name on RedGage so I can add you?

Personally sometimes this is what they are taught to think. That they need to sign up for every site out there, and then leave links to their Website on everyone's profile, comments, etc. never stopping to think this is considered as Spam. I have seen it many times here too over the yrs. I have been here, and really wish these people would be active first instead of SPAM everyone, and they would have lots more success for sure.

I agree 100%. Most of these people don't have a clue. They want to get rich quick and they buy an ebook that tells them how to spam everyone just as you said. They just do as they are told thinking they will get rich. I suppose a lot of them are not savy enough to know how stupid this is and the rest don't care.

What mentality does this? A definite lack of mentality, I would say...

It does make you think there are a few loose screws upstairs. (For those not familiar with English idioms, "loose screws" means something is missing or not quite right, and "upstairs" means in the head. So the whole sentence means whoever did this wasn't using his head very well or that he wasn't quite right in the head.)

Spammers, unfortunately, are everywhere, I gets lots of post similar to those that you have commented in every site I am, most of them are nothing more than just annoying, but some, are really dangerous, and their offers are nothing but hoaxes, I recomend you never open any link in one of these posts, and flag them or report to moderator, whenever posible.

I flagged them, but this person was clever enough to post them at the beginning of a long weekend when they knew the site adminstrator's notices might be backed up and members cannot approve comments on RedGage before they post. On most other sites, these messages would not see the light of day.

Its sad that there are people who have different aims in joining a site. If she wants to make a sale, she should befriended everyone first and comment the way that it should be. One the side then, she could send messages to ask if anyone is interested to buy her shoes, maybe that would be acceptable for me...

RedGage is not a primarily a blogging site, although you can write a blog there. People try to earn money by uploading content -- links, pictures, videos, etc. Then people come and comment on them. People get paid by the views they receive. You can reply to comments on your content, but you can't prevent them from appearing in your comments -- unless I've missed something.

Perhaps he managed to have procured for himself some sales doing those spams. It could be that per his experience, there are some very much shoe lovers who would pay visits to those sites once they know of its existence. Or, if this is his first time, he is just testing the waters if he can produce some sales doing it this way. Yes, this is the mentality of a person who has no care for the others. He knows that what he has been doing is offensive to most of us. Personally, I would say that, he deserves to receive appropriate action from your part for having bugged you so much.

I am hoping once RedGage staff see this, they will boot him off RedGage, since it appears he doesn't intend to contribute anything that will help them.

Sadly it is the greed mentality. Some people actually think that members will entertain this kind of spamming and unfortunately some do before they get kicked out of the site. Reporting/flagging is the right thing to do because too many of these types of members actually ruin a site for the rest of the loyal members in the long run.

I guess some people just don't get it. I'll bet they are the first to yell if someone spams their blog or web site.

It's because they only think about revenue and not care about anything other than that...

If they care about revenue, they should make the most of the site by using it properly to make money.
