Belated Happy Teacher's Day!

October 4 was marked World Teacher's Day to honor our second parents at school. My cousin who is now a pre-school teacher got many roses from her students. They are heroes in a way that they contribute in the shaping of our youth and the future. They inspire and change our lives, in one way or another, and sometimes affect out decisions (college) that proves crucial to us. And yet, we seldom appreciate them. Even the government fails to recognize their importance, given the low wages of public school teachers. They should be given more benefits and higher wages to meet their needs so they can focus well in educating our youth, and they may not need to go and work abroad. As students, we should thank them by studying well, reach for our dreams and make our teachers proud.

It is rather good to appreciate the great teachers that guide us. Sadly, it is a shame that they are not getting appreciated themselves. For reasons that are not really their fault of course. Just for reasons that they are getting shoved underneath the bus and their ability to help students are getting undermined. It does take a special person to rise up beyond that to help the children of America. I know teachers like that, despite it all, they keep helping students do their best to excel. It is really a warm feeling to say the very least. Sadly there have been many bright eyed teachers that have been reduced to soulless zombies, just collecting their meager paychecks. It is really a bad state of affairs when something like that does in fact occur. Teachers getting spit on when they should be appreciated. Now is a time to take a moment to appreciate what they really mean to us.

hello megamatt, I do not say that they should not be appreciated for their 'work' (?), we should as well but not those who are horribly ignorant even about the subject they take up. The solution to bring value based and quality is to train the selected teachers and then increasing their monthly incentives. What I put up is from my personal experience. Actually I was made the president of the School Management Committee of an LP school that is in the vicinity of my resident. And I being myself a College Teacher I have first hand experience of the teaching method of those worthless teachers.

Belated happy teacher's day to all the teachers in the globe. Thanks for my teachers for molding me as a person and molding my carrier path professionally. Without you guys I am nothing. I am very proud of how noble your professions are. On the other hand astreadido, we need to voice out and speak in behalf of our teachers. They should be properly compensated and they should receive their benefits. God help us all.

What a lovely expression - 'our second parents at school' That is exactly how I felt when I taught mathmatics as a temporary teacher in a girls high school - the only man amongst 1000+ students and teachers! It brought home to me the enormous responsibility that teachers have and how I was an extension of the parents. As an engineer helping out when the school was desperatly short of a maths teacher I think I learned more than the girls!

Hi there, I had come to know about the 'World Teachers' Day' was on 4th October. Our students observe September 5th as Teacher day in India. This time it fell on Sunday that marred the excitement of the celebrations. Again the 'World Teacher' Day could not be celebrated with fun fare since in our country it was 'Durga Puja'and people left for their respective homes. You said it right that the teachers are the builders of the country, there by guiding the students of today. Today the traditional teaching learning process has changed and now they are more after quality and value based education. To give a face lift to the Government Schools - both LP and High School new technology is being applied. Though this new curriculum has been applied the incompetent teachers in LP and High schools have pushed the talented students to the private schools and they are doing good there. However, the College/University teachers have to have a good and balanced academic career. And to encourage them for better and value based education the 6th Pay Commission has enhanced their monthly salary between Rs.36,000 to Rs.87,000. What I feel is, if brilliant and trained teachers are recruited for LP and High Schools parents and guardians would not send their wards to private schools anymore. However as they are teachers it is duty of the govt. and Public bestow honor on them.

Oh I didn't know that. In my country, teachers are generally paid well, except for preschool teachers. I agree that teachers contribute in the shaping of our youth and the future. A toast to all the teachers on mylot!:)
