Do you get irritated by "Please don't shut down your computer" message?

Grrr... I only use my netbook every weekend, and most of the time I would get that message from windows update. It is ok if it will only be for a few minutes, but sometimes (like now) it took almost an hour to complete!! I only used my netbook for an hour and now I had to wait for another hour just to turn it off! Do you feel irritated by this too? Why and why not?

Oh yes, especially when Iam in a hurry trying to catch up with something. It irks me to know that I have to wait for a few minutes.

Especially when we need to go somewhere else and have to leave our computer!

I would not say that I get annoyed by it, but it certainly can be inconvenient at times. As several members imply it often seems to happen if you are in a hurry, although I would simply leave the computer to shut down when the process is over. The worst occasion is when you are rebooting the computer due to a new software install because you have little choice but simply sit there and wait.

What is the reason why it takes you that long to shut down your system? Did you set something like scanning before shutting off? That is one reason why it takes an hour for your laptop to turn off. Check your system, it takes me a minute to shut down my laptop.

I didn't get irritated to these message rather I love to see these message because it makes me feel that my computer updates new file from windows and other software that is installed from the computer. You should also be happy to update your computer because it will also improve our computer. This updates helps us to fight viruses and malwares around the web that tries to intrude our computers and destroy it. But the only down for these is that you have to wait 30 mins and above to be able to fully install this updates that Windows usually offer. =)

I would be happy if it won't take that long to finish updating!

I also hate to have to restart every time to apply hotfixes, but it occurs only monthly. It's more annoying on servers than desktop systems.

you can have option in windows that shutdown your computer without installing updates.. you can choose that option.. if you change the way of login and log off from control panel you will get this option in shutdown.. and in normal mode you can do by pressing shift at shutdown time in XP and in vista or higher it's always option in start menu on shutdown icon, shutdown computer without update it..

Yes, me too I am often irritated with this message and other messages created by windows like "do you want to save this" "your computer encountered trouble" and God knows what else. I mean why windows would just not automatically shut it or save it for Heaven's sake? Why they kept on asking if we don't save it or we don't shut our computer?I am on the verge of writing microsoft regarding these very irritating prompt in their program lol!

It doesn't bother me very much. I turned off the automatic updates on my netbook so I don't have to worry about it updating whenever it feels like it. I still have automatic updates turned on for my desktop PC. It doesn't annoy me when updates install as I'm shutting it down. I usually just turn the monitor off and go to bed while it does its thing. The only time the updates really get on my nerves is when they decide to install and shut down the computer while I'm working on something important. It doesn't happen often, but it sure is aggravating!

You have an option to apply patch and shutdown or shutdown without installing the patch. The patches are there for a reason but if you are in a hurry, you can do that later. Alternatively, you have the patches installed while you are using the computer.

I`ve never seen a message like that on my PC but probably that`s because i disabled the autou pdates since day one.None of the programs i use has auto updates enabled because i like to do it myself when i don`t do something else.

I've used 7 but my current computer is still xp so not too sure but still believe you can shut updates off with 7. Some might disagree with that action but if you are not installing new programs or doing new things online there is little need. Don't get me wrong updates are good but you need to play the waiting game.
