Hello checapricorn, I worked in a call center before but I was at the back office so my shift was like the regular working hours. I have friends who are also working in a call center some of them have the grave yard shift some are on the regular working hours. If you can work on the grave yard shift which is the common shift for call center agents, you can enjoy working in that setting. But make sure you take care of your health, drink supplements and avoid unhealthy food and lifestyle. Good luck and have fun mylotting.

I worked in various call centers for 10 years. It helps that you like to sell, if you don't even the best job is stressful or boring. It depends on how good the center is, some are less stressful than others, if they maintain that you make a certain quota all the time, that is really stressful. Then you have to be good at dealing with people, some people are very rude, yell, scream and swear at you all the time. Imagine having a day when everyone on the phone is doing that.

I am thinking about that too since my friend told me how bad it is sometimes, though there are callers who are very nice too! I need to be very strong then, scary! I am sensitive sometimes! lol!

I have worked in a call center. There are different kinds of call centers though so I don't know which one you are talking about. There is one that you are doing surveys and get paid a commission by how many you do. Then there is one that people phone you when they have a problem to be worked out and usually those call centers you earn by the hour. Then there is the kind that you are phoning people to sell them something and you get usually get paid a hourly wage and a commission if you make so many sales. That is the kind I have worked for. I was to sell magazine subscriptions and I hated it. I worked for two weeks, one week of training, not enough in my view and then I was left on my own for the next week. I never sold a single magazine subscription so I got fired. I didn't mind getting fired because it was hard and I hated it. Most people were really rude and hung up on me. I would never take that kind of job again but some people like it and you may so you might want to give it a try. Some of the people that worked there were selling them and making really good money. Some of them were making over a thousand dollars a week. It just wasn't for me. Cheers and happy mylotting , Chris

Thanks for the input chris, I will not like the selling part too, I have no patience for that and no skills of convincing people! lol! The one I am talking about is the one who will take calls to assist callers in whatever inquiries they have!

Most call centres in our country work at night and it is not possible for everyone to be working nights always. Unless you have a family at home who understands your situation and gives you enough time and silence around to rest. If you are able to adjust to the timings and like talking and interacting with people I think it is a very good job.

Same here mayka, I asked my friend about the schedules and most of them works at night, there are people who are working in the morning too so the schedule varies! I do know yet if they are going to give a morning schedule for the newly hired!

I work in a call center in Austin, Texas. I work for a market research company recruiting focus groups. I have been there over 20 years. The stress is very high and the pay is low. There is stress from managers and supervisors but also the respondents who I am interviewing. Sometimes there is no work for days. We have had a spotty year. I have done ok but it was impossible to plan. I worked whenever we had work and when we did not, I was home or found other things to do. But I could not make any plans. On the positive side, I work with a lot of very interesting people: all ages, religions, ethnicities, political views etc etc etc. We are very diverse. We schedule ourselves. Our commitment is four days a week and one of those four has to be a weekend. And we decide what days we want to work. I do not have to dress up. Quite the opposite. We dress down. At least some of us do. We sometimes have a lot of free food. We hold focus groups at our facility. Our respondents get fed and the clients get fed. And often there is a lot of good food left over and we in the phone room get the leftovers. Sometimes I like my work and other times I do not. I had never worked in a phone room until I got this job and it took some getting used to.

We work in four hour shifts. Except for a 15 minute break, we never get off the phone. Either we are calling out or we are having to take a call in. We never get off the phone!!! At home, I keep both my phone and answering machine on mute. I only talk on the phone at home when I must.

I haven't but I actually applied being a call center agent. That was 2 years ago. I just want to try it. I was interviewed by the interviewer asking so many questions. I was with my IT classmates at that time. Yes, I passed the interview and I was about to be ready for the training. Unfortunately I didn't proceed because my father doesn't want me to apply for a job. He wants me to focus only to my studies.

I used to work in the Time Warner Cable call Center for a while, it is a high pressure job, but for people with the right temperment and the right kind of personality it is a great job. They pay well too because the job is so demanding. It is wall to wall calls, but if you can handle it it may be a very good job for you.

hi checapricorn I never worked in a call center b ut b eing in the US and needing help on my computer why am I routed out of my country to a call center where most do not speak English well enough to be understood long distance on something that technical? and rude and impolite and not helping when I asked to speak with anyone who had a better command of the English language.after all it was not my idea that I had to call out of my country. I am not bilingual and when I called for help I expected someone locally. grrrrrrrrrrrrr. I hope more call center care about the people that call to them.

I understand what you mean Hatley, English is my second language and for my day to day interaction with English speaking people, I always need to enhance my pronunciation for them to understand me. I am improving a lot though!lol! I have experienced calling 1800 number and the representative who take my call was someone like me( english as second language) and I tell you it was so hard for me to understand him...I was trying to press my phone hard in my ears and It didn't help! nice output, thanks!

Hello Checacapricorn, I have never worked in call center but i have lot of friends who work in call centers.Working in a call center is not like other working places here you need to have flexibility and you must adjust yourself to work in different shifts. One of my friend is having continous night shift since 1 year,in the starting he had problems but now he has adjusted himself. So you too will have to adjust in order to survive there.
