Do you have the habit of using your car signals?

car signals - they are very important when on the road to inform other road users of your intentions.

I read in the papers that a survey was carried out on drivers and one of the findings/results showed that car signals ranks high. Ranking high in not being used! My gawd~~~! The car signal is a really important tool when driving on the road. It shows your intent to turn, allowing other users to take the appropriate actions to your intentions when they see it. It is like hand signals to a deaf man when communicating on the road! Even when the signal is easy to turn on, just by the flick of a finger behind the wheel, people are just lazy to use them! And I have personally encountered this numerous times when I am driving on the road. Especially on the highway. Sheez~~! Do you use your signal lights when you are driving?

haha, i've seen my fair share of such drivers. I even quarrel with one of these drivers. He was trying to turn into the car park and he didn't signal his intention. So i assume he's not turning and i crossed the road. I strolled across it and by time his car was near, he started honking at me for a few times and i show him the most powerful finger.. lol He went to park his car before he ran up to me and i told him he didn't signal so it's not my fault. He insist he did but luckily my friend took a video and we showed it to him.. lol Before we left, we told the driver, see u again soon.. lol

I've gotten into the habit of using my turn signals every time I turn. Sometimes I catch myself flipping them on to turn into my friend's driveway or even into my own parking space at home. It really drives me nuts when other drivers don't bother signalling. I'm not a mind reader, so how do they expect me to know what they're doing if they don't tell me?

Yep,it's like they're thinking "EVERYONE knows I always turn off here..."

that would be the i-don't-are-it-is-up-to-you-to-care attitude for some drivers. Once they get their license, everything they learn that led up to their getting their license gets backed up in storage and permanently deleted from the active storage of their brain!

What bugs Me when driving along would be those who either don't use their signals at all,or hit the brakes FIRST and then as an afterthought MIGHT then turn on the indicators.. I Mean, when Learning to drive, the sequence we learn is Mirror,Signal,Manoeuvre...How difficult is that to remember?!

And the worst part of it is, for collisions that occur due to these silly mistakes of the driver in-front not signalling his/her intention, the fault lies with the driver at the back of the collision! Sigh~!

Yes, this is another of my pet peeves. You are right, how difficult is to remember to signal first?!! Common sense should tell you that people! A signal indicates your intention and gives drivers behind you the opportunity to adjust their speed in anticipation of you slowing down to make said turn. Somehow, jamming on your brakes just doesn't work as well. People should use their signals for their OWN safety! These brake-first-then-signal drivers are gonna find some hotshot driver who's been on their a$$ embedded in their bumper!

You hit the bull's eye on that. It's really laziness on the part of the driver. Using the signals is so much easy a task. Even a my kid knew how to when he was 5 years old. These lazy drivers don't realize that using your car's signals can prevent possible accidents.

yeah... and it is not like it takes a lot of effort to turn on the signal light. it is just stick out your finger while you hand is still on the wheel and flick! Sigh... the laziness of man just knows no bounds!

AAUGH! This is one of my pet peeves! I drive in the DC/VA/MD metropolitan area which has the most dangerous drivers in the US (according to the latest research) and without a doubt, some of the rudest drivers in the country! It would be nice if the driver gives me some kind of warning before he totally cuts me off! All I ask for is a simple little signal. I like the ones who wait until they are actually making the turn to flip the signal. Or they flip it once, a quick flash of red. Blink and you miss it! I must blink a lot because I sure miss a lot of signals! Ack, ahgong, you got me started. Now I'm ranting about these a**hole drivers! Yes, absolutely, I always use my signal. It has become automatic because I've been driving so long. But get this... I have actually signaled a lane change and had vehicles speed up so I couldn't get over! *pulling my hair out on I-95*

Now that you reminded me about the lane change thingy! it inspired me to start a discussion there. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2620060.aspx

I admit that sometimes I'm really bad at using turn signals. I usually will only use them if someone is directly behind me and I'm about to turn in front of them or if I'm trying to switch lanes right in front of someone. But I always always always use my signal when I'm on the highway. I'm not as bad as some people though who don't even use it at all. I get so frustrated when all I see are brake lights go on and then all of the sudden the person turns. People need to be more aware of using them and that they're helpful in letting other drivers know where the heck you plan on going.

yes. I feel the same way too. It is especially frustrating when you are cruising in your lane on the highway when some one just suddenly swerve into your lane and you have to apply the brakes to counter/prevent a collision! And I get especially upset when it happens and my baby is on board~!
