Finishing a book series...now what?

I really do enjoy reading books and usually I prefer a whole series rather than just a single book. The one thing that really bothers me though is what to do after finishing a series. If I get hooked onto a good series, I'll eagerly read through the series just because the story is so good. The thing I don't like though is finishing the series and then having nothing to read. It's just like ok, I finished all the books, now I have nothing to read. This just happened to me after reading the last book in the Hunger Games series. I read through all 3 pretty quickly and now that I finished, I don't know what else to read next. Hopefully I'll be able to find another good series to start on next. Do you ever feel like this after finishing a series..even if it's a tv or movie series?

I know the hype is over but it was only last year that I've read all of the Harry Potter and the Twilight series. I've read one book after another, first the HP and then the Twilight. I enjoyed them so much I actually felt sad when I was near the end of each series. I was torn between wanting more and wanting to believe that that's how they should end. I haven't read another book since coz I don't have enough time at the moment. In time, maybe.

That's exactly how I feel too. Now that the movies are coming to an end I'm really sad because now it seems so final that everything is done. If you ever get the time, try the Hunger Games. There's 3 in the series and I absolutely loved it. The movie comes out in March and I'm sure they'll end up doing all 3.

Yeah, I'm actually looking forward to watching the film. For books that have been turned into movies, I like to watch the movies first and if I'm happy with them, that's when I turn to the books. But a lot of people have recommended Hunger Games (the book), so I guess just like HP and Twilight, I'd go grab a copy once I've watched Hunger Games.

I tend to read series as opposed to stand alone books. I just finished the first of the hunger games series, and plan to borrow the next tomorrow. I currently have a list of series that I want to read. Most of them have 4 to 6 books in them, but I want to go back and read all 18 of the Stephanie Plum books. I am also interested in the Anita Blake Vampire series which currently has 20 or so books. Those should keep me busy for a while.

The Vampire series I have read so far have been the Anita Blake ones written by Laurell Hamilton. I have read the sookie stackhouse books written by Charlaine Harris and are the ones that True Blood are based off of. I read a series by Jocelyn Drake that was good.

Yes I love series like that! For me, the longer the series, the better it is lol. I just finished the Hunger Games...they were sooo good, but the epilogue I found a bit disappointing. I really enjoy vampire series so I'm going to find more of those to get into.

why not do a book review? it would be interesting how you find the book and your critical observations can help you analyze the next books you will try to read.

Ha ha, I totally feel the same way. I almost feel like there's something MISSING in my life after finishing a TV series or a book series. It becomes such a huge part of your routine! I haven't read THAT many series, but the Shopaholic series - Harry Potter series - and some other random teen series, and I've also watched plenty of shows all the way through (Buffy, Angel, Desperate Housewives, Charmed - to name a few) and after I get done and over with them, it's kind of a sad experience. You just have to move onto another series and hope to heck that it's as good as the last one you saw or read. Gah!

Whenever I'm running low on books - which usually makes me nervous when I only have four books left to read - I go on barnes and noble and have a shopping spree. I pick authors I've read before and liked, or new ones based on price. I find that I like MOST books - there are only three books that I dislike greatly - and I'm not overly picky. If I don't like a certain genre, I won't pick it (like romance). So I just shop according to genre and get hooked!

Yeah, there's a few genres that I really don't like to read either. Some of the best series I've read have been geared more for teens and I loved them. I'm 19 and while I'd like to read books a little more for adults, I find some of them to be pretty boring. I'm just going to have to keep searching!

I don't like when a tv series ends either. Luckily, I've started a few new series that I really love and now I'll have them. And I guess when I really have nothing to watch I'll go back and watch old episodes of series that I haven't watched. I love House but I'm not consistent with keeping up with the episodes. I'd also like to watch Gossip Girl, Being Human, and Supernatural. When I have a bunch of spare time on my hands I guess I'll watch all those series from the beginning lol

it is hard to have and find time to keep up with the series i mean every episode is almost impossible to do. Lucky for me i have netflix wichis kind of nice because it has a great variety of shows on it and you can watch the whole season.
