Weather in different parts of the world

Yesterday I got chatting to the husband of one of my friends. He mentioned that this cold weather was nothing like that he had when he lived in America. As a Brit there he had to quickly learn what to do. He knew people in the winter took a spade in the back of their car. He left it in his car and went shopping. When he came out of the shop there had been a snow fall and cars were covered in it. It had taken him ages to find his car and he then knew he should have taken his spade inside the shop. He needed to dig the snow away to get is car out. Sometimes his parking brake would freeze and he wouldn't be able to go anywhere. I laughed and mentioned that I found it hard when my car windscreen would freeze overnight. Have you had any interesting experience in snow, ice or very sunny weather? Which weathers have you experienced on your travels and in your home country?

Yes, I heard about all this snow and its hassle. A blogger once told me that it is so freezing cold even the engine can't start . They have to really prepared themselves for emergency especially the first few days of snow where most vehicles spoilt as they weren't prepared for it.

I know snow looks pretty but it gives lots of hassle. Heating bills are expensive and now he want the heat on because it is freezing cold. I heat my bungalow one hour in the morning and one hour in the late afternoon. It keeps the place feeling okay and if it gets too chilly I put on my electric fire in the lounge on for a bit. I should keep my car in my garage so it doesn't keep freezing overnight. Though last autumn I put more storage options in it.

My aunt lives in a really cold part of the US, and when they come to visit my mom (who lives in a slightly warmer part), they think 40F is warm! I live in the mid-Atlantic part of the US, and I'm happy there isn't as much snow - heating bills are so expensive and then you also have to worry about your water pipes freezing and your car (if you have one).

I spent a year in central Iowa years ago. Where I was, the temperature hit -26 F overnight 4 times. The first 3 times my car would start because the battery charge went low. After getting a new battery, I made the mistake of letting my gas tank go below half full and my gas line froze. In Iowa and points further north, it's common in winter to see cars with electric cords coming out of their grills. The cords are for block heaters so that the engine can be kept warm over night preventing the oil from getting too thick and making it easier to start the car. When I went to Fairbanks, Alaska once (in August), I remember the motel had electrical outlets in front of all the parking spaces in the parking lot. That was also the first time I stayed in a hotel/motel where there was no air conditioning. You didn't need it.

It is fascinating to hear how challenging life is in Central Iowa during the winter. Minus 26 is miserable. It was a shame your battery charge went low and then your gas line froze. It is interesting to hear about what you saw in Fairbanks in Alaska. The electric cords do help and they don't need air conditioning up there hey.

Fortunatly I live in a part of the world with a very mild climate. Our worst for a few days in the middle of the Winter is an hour a day of 0ºC just before dawn. In March you will experience a not cold at all Autumn. I don´t need central heating and get along with a couple of gas heaters for part time each day. I think it´s wonderful to be able to be comfortable with just wearing the right kind of clothes. Waiting for you

US generally has 4 seasons like in Europe, parts of Asia, and Australia. Years ago, my car spinned during a snow storm. Luckily, there were no cars/traffic at that moment. One of my tires was bad at that time. I could be in a whole lot of troubles if there were other cars at that moment. Since last year, I have moved to southern California. California in general does not have much snow or hardly any snow. Since I moved here, I have not experienced any snow. I missed it though. I generally love the cold weather, but love a state that has lots of glamour and activity.

In a tropical country like the Philippines where in the sun shines warm everyday and it is hot to go outside, i better stay at home because of the ultra violet rays and gets me into sunburn and headache. The sun is not that safe nowadays!

In Sri Lanka we have snow only in amusement centers where it is generated artificially. But once in a way we hear about snowfalls in the hill countries. As for the weather this may be one of the countries with the best weather in the world. In fact the weather is never too cold or hot. On the other hand being a very small country you can withing one day travel to different parts of the country and experience all types of weather, for cold to hot.

My head is throbbing right now and I don't feel well because of the weird weather in my country. During midday it is so hot and at night it is cold. Probably not cold in westerners' standards, but for us here living in a tropical climate. I wish it would just rain if it wants to rain or just plain, bright sunshine. There are rain clouds that block the sun for a few minutes, that I have had to dash outside to save my laundry. And as soon as I have all my laundry inside, it starts to get all sunny again without a single drop of rain. Because of this weird weather, my orchids are suffering too. They haven't given me a single bud of flowers since January and these are supposedly the months that they should be showing flowers because it is cold. My roses, lilies and other ground plants are a riot of colors right now, but I am stressing over my orchids. I do wish the weather changes to either the blistering heat of the summer or rain. Nothing in between.

Boy the weather does sound really bad in your country right now. I hope the weather does get better for you sooner rather than later. I am from Canada and we get to experience all kinds of weather. It can get really hot in the summer time and really cold in the winter. It really is good to be prepared for all kinds of weather conditions. I remember when we had a really big snow storm years ago. It made it really tough to walk around or drive around. It wound up staying like that for a couple weeks felt like I was in the Arctic or Antarctica. lol.

I've generally lived in warmer climates. So, it was a bit of shock when we first came here and deal with the snow. At first it was just fun, and wonderful to see. But soon I realized how terrible it really is. After I've almost been in an accident while dealing with black ice, and after I've hit my head on my driveway after shoveling snow (on top of ice), I've learned to hate it.

Yeah the weather can very much vary the world over for sure, as I found out many ways. Don't travel all that much these days. But there are times where people have warned me that is a good idea to extensively look up the forecast and what the usual weather is for another land and rather prepare for it accordingly. That does seem like some sound advice. I think that the one thing that doesn't vary the world over, is how the weather can turn from rather nice to kind of ugly right at the snap of the finger. Where there are just going to be many times where the weather can turn around. Where it can be bright and sunny run down, and the most ugly rain and snow storms during the next day. From warm to cold to warm to cold and...well just be prepared for anything.

Europe seems to be getting our Canadian deep freeze this year. Here where i live, we have been experiencing above average temperatures and very little snow which is nice but makes me worry about the summer. i expect it will be above normal too.

Hi maxim, I have no experience about snow fall. Because not yet I visited any European countries or America. Now you are experiencing heavy snow fall and very cool weather. Specially in East European countries now temperature is minus 30 degree or under 30.But in tropical countries like Indian subcontinent now in winter the weather is pleasant. The temperature is +15 to +26 degree Celsius. I can't even think to visit Europe in this Winter. I will get frozen there.

Hello Maximax, I think Climate Change has started kicking in, like for example there are some parts of my country that doesn't experience much flood because of the rains. another scenario is about the too much cold experienced not just in Ukraine but some parts of Europe as well. I haven't travel at all, but seeing these on the news it gives you the shivers about how fast the weather can change.

hi maximax, I think that was a funny story. LOL. Well, yes you are right, weather vary in different parts of the world, how i wish that there is snow here in the philippines. LOL. It's a tropical country, so sometimes it's hot specially during summer and also rainy when it hits june. I don't know if you heard reports about floods here in my country. Because we are always visited by storms, and the result is flood. That's sucks, because a lot of people get affected by it, they even lost their homes.

Wow, it is awesome hearing about snow in different part of the world as i've never been to a country where there is snow neither have i seen snow before in real life though i've seen dew. There are three main seasons in my country the rainy,hot-dry and harmattan. The rainy season from May to September in the Northern part while in the Southern part it is from march to November.dry-hot season exist from December to January,Late December to Febuary we do experience harmattan. Most people in my Country prefer rainy season,At this period the body looks fresh and farmers are happy hoping for a good result on their plants after the rainy season,No heat but a very pleasant and friendly weather blowing fresh air from every angle. Many children fall sick at this period having cold, fever and so on if they are not well taken care of by there parents by eating cold food or wearing of light cloth while they are suppose to eat warm food and put on cardigans. Dry and hot season is the worst, everywhere dry and very hot.It will be a nice experience for me visiting a country where there is natural snow.
