Can you lose weight by swimming and walking?

So one thing that my best friend and I love to do during the summer is swim. During the summer before I started my freshman year of high school in 2005 I had a pool so I would swim everyday with my friends, but I would also be walking up and down the street thirty times a day. I lost a good 40 pounds that summer without even realizing it! I gained half the weight back during my sophomore and junior year when most of my friends moved away. I finally got down to the 120's over the last two years and am now finding it hard to exercise and diet. I am really hoping to lose another 10 or 15 pounds in the next year for my best friends wedding (I'm the maid of honor). What I want to know is, can you lose weight by swimming and walking one or two days every other week? Do you know any good summer diets I could try over the next two months and maybe even do during the school year? I can't swim as much as I use to because I don't have a pool anymore so I have to go to my best friends apartment and swim with her.

Swimming is more effective than walking, but both do help in weigh loss. If regularly swim/walk it would surely help in weigh loss, as I what know without proper diet, doing some sort of exercise regularly we maintain weigh accordingly ...
