Weird Strawberries

Weird but still yummy. We as a family just love strawberries and will pay just about any price for them, so now in Canada they're still a bit expensive so we just bought 2 boxes from the local supermarket and had them with milk and sugar. They're now $2.99 per box but they should go down in price to $2.50 a box and we'll purchase 3 large crates for our winter jams and preserves.
These 2 boxes seemed to have a sense of humour,so it seemed, I pulled out 5 strange looking strawberries - including one that had "fingers" and another on (top right) looked like the *gulp!!!!!!* guilletine! Just had to share this picture - one even looked like a Red Delicous Apple :-p

Oh, I have had those before and it makes one wonder what was put on these plants to make the berries grow this way. I have grown strawberries, which of course was organic, and not only do they not have weird shapes, but they were smaller, but much sweeter than store bought.

Oh they were yummy! I'm so glad I was able to take a picture of them, those were the strangest strawberries I've seen. I did see some berries with 2 attached together before, not in these 2 boxes but those were very rare. Those were really cute to eat, hehe. Anyway, strawberry season is here and we're hoping the price will go down next week from $2.99 a box to $2.49 a box like they did last year. I'll get 3 large crates for sure :-)

Your picture is funny. I'm like one of your posters grow strawberries organically ans they are correctly shaped and very sweet. The price of strawberries is high also, so we just grow them.

Ya it is funny but they were yummy. I'm actually thinking of growing strawberries "hothouse" style I suppose, in a like a houseplant, the flowers are pretty to look at anyway. I've actually looked it up online and so far I seen it's fairly easy. We may not be able to get a whole lot or anything but it'll give us practise in growing plants and harvesting that sort of thing. I wish we had a back yard or something for planting berries and veggies and all that good stuff.

the price of fruit has gone up considerably because of the poor spring we had. i heard that cherries were $10 for a basket around here! l
love the picture of your strawberries. hubby and my mother in law did go picking (i cannot as i have bad knees) but here the season was early and very quick due to the unusually warm spring. we did however, have a few plants in our garden which yielded a few little baby berries but were good none the less.

Sometimes we get bing cherries or sweet cherries for $1.99lb that's in June, so I always stock up then, I think this year I purchased enough for 1 batch of pure cherry jam and some left over for a jumble-berry jam (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, huckleberries, and cherries). I think that's my favourite kind of jam that I make. As for picking we don't go picking anymore because of the high gas prices and it would be actually cheaper to buy them on sale at the grocery store.

I do love a good fresh strawberry. We have them growing here, but have not got any fruit from the plants yet. A few grew last year but were quickly eaten before they ripened.
I have seen some weird shaped ones before but not so many in one pack like you seem to have. I could not make out the guillotine one though in the picture.
You had them with milk and sugar? Why ruin a perfectly good strawberry? It is not like they really need sweetening if you buy good ones!

They are pretty good fresh from the vine, true, but a nice cold sweet treat for a sweet teeth like me.....mmmmmmmmmmm!!! Not only I put in strawberries, but also sliced up some banana as well, now that's superdelicious! Years ago I used to put strawberries and kiwi together and top it with whipped cream, that's also quite lovely, I should go out and get some kiwi again, I miss it.

Those are weird strawberries!! I think the weirdest I've ever had were "siamese twin" strawberries - like it was supposed to be 2, but they were together as 1. I've had gigantic strawberries too - and that seemed so unnatural! Strawberries are at a great price now . . . I got some here at Fresh & Easy - 4 pounds for like $3.99! I just round a recipe online for strawberry hand pies - so I think the kids and I will be baking those soon.

Ya, I think I seen a few siamese twins but only once or twice, they're not often. I would love to make a nice strawberry pie, especially from fresh strawberries,I think that would make a lovely summer treat. Put whipped cream on top....mmm, would be just as good as the good old strawberry shortcake!

Strawberry is so yummy, it make my mouth feel watering each time i see them, unfortunately, it is so expensive even for a small box of strawberry here, the price range is usually out of my budget unless the store is having a quick sales. It is getting expensive every year for all sorts of berries even though it is a locally produce fruit, the price never seem to come down and the farmers are always saying this harvest year is bad, their operating cost is rising, the bug destroy majority of their crop, etc... that is why it is 3.99-5.99 in a small box. Yes, your strawberries do look weird and they are probably belong to a unique class of strawberry family.

Masihi, so far i haven't such a weird looking strawberries in my area here yet. I am not sure whether i have the chance to see them in my supermarket here. I will keep a watch and see whether the local supermarket will sell this type of strawberry. Do they taste more delicious than the usual type of strawberry?

We have a deep freezer so we have room for all kinds of summer berries and also cherries, so that's why we buy in large quantities. We usually end up with 7 or 8 large freezer bags of strawberries alone. I also like raspberries, blueberries, huckleberries, and cherries, which I'll make some jumble-berry jam out it (berries all jumbled up together). Working with berries are so fun! :-)

I love strawberry everything, yum yum. My family won't try it - yet - but I also like sliced strawberries with sliced bananas with mild and sugar, now that is a delicious treat. When I was younger I ate a lot of strawberries and kiwi but no milk, just a bit of sugar on top, but i did have whipped cream on top. That was a lovely treat, come to think of that, I should purchase some kiwi...
