Made hommade subways

United States
July 17, 2012 1:28pm CST
A friend of ours came by yesterday and brought some subway sandwich bread. She works for Subway and brings some home to herself. She shared some with us and I have some cold cuts and cheese and lettuce. It wasn't exactly like Subways but it was good. I put light mayo, mustard and Italian dressing on mine with salt, pepper and oregano. I also had some chips, so with iced tea it was a very good lunch. What's on the menu at your house for lunch?

my daughter works for subway. sometimes she brings home things that are going to be tossed anyway even though they are still good. we make home made ones sometimes. great lunch. but even before she came here my son could make them just like subway. sometimes better. he puts black olives on them and pepperchinis, which is the yellow peppers that arent real hot. love those

I love sub sandwiches and they will have to go on the menu soon as it is really too hot for all the stuff I keep planning. @PQ I find that if I eat something substantial, with eggs in it in the morning then I eat less the rest of the day, and the opposite is true as well, if I do not have eggs and meat I am hungry all day no matter what I eat.

That's like me. I do better with protein breakfasts.

Watch out for the cholesterol from too many eggs each week! Stick with egg whites, if possible. By the way, my all time favorite subway subs are meatball subs, with pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and hots! And provolone cheese - on flatbread...yummmmmmmmy!

I think we skipped lunch today. I eat a little at work, then I came home and we had hash and eggs about 10:45. We are busy with a bunch of other stuff and have just eaten fruit and had cold water. I plan on (trying) to make fried chicken today. I have not done it in ages, but I ran across and online recipe that sounds really good.We have to eat early so I can go be in the nursery for VBS

Made me really hungry. Thanks for sharing your subway. I would like to know how to prepare one. For lunch, I had my favorite steamed dory fish with white rice. :) That's already good for me. Am not really a big eater. hehe... Btw, did you also make the chips?

I bought my favorite chips the other day. Just look online at how to make a sub sandwich. I use whatever I have, including my favorite banana peppers.

oh, thanks, PointlessQuestions. I better learn how. You know, subways where I am are a bit pricey. Am not sure if it's less costly if I make one, though. Depends on ingredients. Almost everything that isn't common here are expensive that's why. :)

I went to the grocery store yesterday and picked up a big (10 lb) bag of chicken leg quarters and boiled the entire thing when I got home. (I like the dark meat a lot more than white meat.) I prefer boiling chicken because the fat rises to the top of the water and can be skimmed off. I kept some of the broth because I plan to make some soup but, for now, I just have these 10 lbs of boiled chicken legs. I let everyone fix them however they want. I like to just grab one of the legs, pull the bones out and season them, then fix some veggies (I usually nuke them like I did today), heat up the chicken and that's my meal. I had that for lunch. I'll probably fix the soup tomorrow morning while it's still cooler outside. I might make some chicken salad and perhaps even make some chicken and rice. I love doing this because the 10 lbs of chicken is almost enough to last an entire week for 3 people. The less cooking when it's hot, the better! I almost always supplement whatever I fix with a green salad, too. Sometimes, it's nothing fancier than some torn lettuce and tomatoes and/or cucumbers but it's nice, light and cool.

I add chicken meat, scrimps and a few other items to make my fried rice delicious. Not forgetting, i am include in the fried egg on everyone's plate, to make the fried rice more yummy.

Subways cannot compete with my homemade submarines, I make my own, I don't bother wasting money on subways.

Make me one and send it to me on my laptop or smart phone! I love subs. I make good ones but not as good as Subway. Sometimes I buy the sub rolls at the market. They are good but not the same.

I cooked tempeh, veggies and fruit (onion, tomato and jalapeno pepper) for lunch and wrapped it all up in a whole wheat tortilla. I cooked the filling with some garam masala and turmeric (both have various health benefits). I had some nice tomatillo-based salsa with it, and I added some good cheese to my boyfriend's wrap. Overall, a tasty and healthy lunch.
