Yesterday my husband break the basin from my kitchen on this topic I argued with him But they said according to wastu sahastra no basin required in kitchen. A man meet with my husband 2 months before and he is saying daily new thing to him. I not like this because when my husband breaking one by one things like gate, basin then our arguments are increasing and no peace in my home. Me and my daughters also worried due to his nature. I not understand how can handle this. They are not hearing me and their mother also. I think to wash the hand and some utensils basin is necessary in kitchen. What you think it is valid to break the basin only a other person is telling this. My basin is attached with kitchen but he said basin should not attached with oata.

I had not come across the doctrine of Vastu Sahastra before. In the West, the Chinese philosophy of Feng Shui is known and somewhat popular. Feng Shui is, however, rather different from the Hindu science of Vastu Sahastra, which is concerned with building a house from the ground up on proper principles. It appears to be doubtful that Vastu Sahastra can be legitimately applied to existing buildings. For those who may be interested, I found a site which explains the principles very comprehensively: http://freevastushastra.com/ They also have available a free e-book (in PDF) here: http://www.freevastushastra.com/download/Vastu-for-House-eBook.pdf On reading the book for recommendations about kitchens, I find that there is NO mention that a basin is 'inappropriate' in a kitchen. In fact, on the contrary, it says: "The location of the sink where the tap water [is] should be located at the Northeast and must not be near the stove or fire area since situations like this will hold back peace and mutual love within the family.", which clearly suggests that there SHOULD be a sink in the kitchen. Any good and sensible cook will tell you that this is so because water is essential in cookery, both for washing food before cooking and for use in cooking as well as for washing one's hands before and during food preparation (actually, good hygiene recommends that there should be a separate basin for hand washing). If you have piped water, of course, the kitchen is one of the places where a tap (and a basin) should be situated! I think that your husband is listening to someone who does not properly understand Vastu Sahastra and how it is to be applied to existing houses (if it really can be!). It is often said "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing!". Perhaps your husband needs to work in the kitchen for a day, preparing and cooking your food, so that he will understand that a basin in the kitchen is essential! Probably, however, your husband is the kind of man who would never stoop to such menial tasks and would not know how to begin if asked to cook a meal!

fantabulus: OHOHO ! wrong friendship -- friendship with a negative person -- or a person who thinks he knows sastra --vassthu sastra-- those who practice vaasthu will make life miserable not only for themselves but also for others. But you cannot argue with your husband now-- ask him to make out a list of all items he says it is not right/correct--in your house -- accept them all though it may be difficult for you -- then no problem. let that person be happy and your husband will be double happy. There are certain things which cannot be changed or altered. If you have decided that elephant flies (may be in your dreams) any amount of my telling will not change you. just an example. Wash basin is very suitable in kitchen -- we have one in our kitchen in chennai --we keep those utensils to be washed there and after few minutes we get them washed. good day.

hi ravi different cultures different customs but we American women would be furious if our husbands just blatantly decided'we did notneed a sink in the kitchen so I am appalled at his thinking and how in hell does he expect Fanta to clean food before cooking it or to wash dishes ahd pots and pans? by magic?no this would not go over in our American Kichens at all.fo r one thing men are not really needed in our kitchens as this is our domain,.I feel sorry for F anta really.

hatley aunty: Very good. Fanta requires a mother in law like you. you are supporting very well. I also support her only. But if she argues it may bring problem between them and that is why I told like this. I know in USA we have modular kitchen and sink is there and it is very convenient for cleaning vessels and also to dispose of unwanted food. the system followed in usa is very good. Probably expensive, may be, i do not know.

Well, the problem is, not having a basin isn't practical. You need it for washing. How are you supposed to prepare meals and clean up from meals without one?

A wash basin in the kitchen means its easier to cook, as fruits and vegetables should be washed before eating. Also its important to wash your hands before and during cooking or baking, as I like to make bread by hand, so I need to clean my hands of flour during baking. Good luck with your husband.

We also use basin in the kitchen whenever we wash stuff, like veggies. So the water will not run continuously over the drain, we use the basin to soak them up and clean them well. As for your husband, I think you need to talk to him that as his wife, you also have a say on how your house should do things, and that includes the stuff you use in your house. Tell him how his attitude also affects him before you and your kids get more hurt with his change. Good luck!

My basin is stainless steel. Of course it's attached. That's how things are in the modern world. It can't be broken. The water part can and has been broken. I had to call a man to put in a new one. I would have done it myself, but it was rusted and I needed muscles. Hence a man. A basin is importance for cleanliness in the kitchen. Cleanliness is important for health. Health is important for life. Tell husband that you need a new non breakable basin for the health of the family.

I cannot say the cause of this behavior, yet I think a wash basin is essential in a kitchen. I cannot imagine a kitchen without a proper wash basin.

I think it is good to have a basin in the kitchen sink for washing fruits and vegetables, I like to soak the vegetables to wash so the bugs and dirt can come off the vegetables easier.
