A few days ago I went to the store t buy a new camera. I had asked one of the guys there if this one camera had a self timer. He was a doof from the start but anyways, he didn't know what a self timer was. This was in the store called Staples. Have you heard of it? How silly do you think it is for a man to work in a store like that with no knowledge of what a self timer is on a camera? I mean, why did they hire this guy, he didn't want to help me at all it seems. The other guy at Office Dept came right up to us and asked if we needed help. Now that's what I call service. They were just out of the camera I wanted and I didn't want the store model. Do you know what a self timer is on a camera? I'm still kind of looking for a new one. What kind of you have and does it have one?

You are right. If someone fails to learn it's like he learns to fail. Another similar sentence is "If one doesn't plan how to succeed, he plans to fail" I also didn't know what a self timer is. Nevertheless, I knew some cameras can take a photo by themselves after some seconds. I would ask "is there any camera that can take a picture with no one to push the button ?" I think everyone can understand that.

Thank you for answering my comment for me. If you don't know what a self timer is I wouldn't hold it against you as I'm not asking you as a representative in any store I went to buy something in. Get it? I'm not asking anyone here if they know what it is to be making them feel stupid.

Yes, Office Depot provides quality customer service as that is a must! I used to work for OD myself :) Anyway, i have a Canon digital camera and yes, it has a self-timer. You can choose between 10 seconds or 12 seconds or 15. Personally, I love Canon cameras, even on reviews, Canon's got some excellent reviews. Which brand are you planning to buy anyway?

I ended up buying another one of the cameras I have had before, the Kodak EasyShare C533. I'm used to it and I know it has all of the features I want, although the quality of the photos is still only 5 pixels.

They probably should not have had someone like that working in the camera department, but it is mostly an office supply store that sells some electronics, but still self timers have been around since I was a kid and I am 47, you would think everyone would know what they are. The camera I use is really cheap and does not have a lot of fancy stuff on it is a little tiny one I can carry in my purse at all times. My husband's camera is fancier and does have one but I got that for him for Christmas about 5 years ago so I don't even know if they sell that model anymore. I don't have one but I have heard of this camera called the GoPro HD Hero2. You can see it here on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/GoPro-HD-HERO2-Outdoor-Edition/dp/B005WY3TI4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347738825&sr=8-1&keywords=Camera%27s+with+self+timers

I thought that he should know it as well. Maybe he was only hired as a relative of someone's at the store. But anyways now that I know which store is more helpful I'll go there instead, and I wasted $32 at that other store where the clerk wasn't helpful as well.

How would you feel if you got a problem with the computer and the technician would ask you some technical questions that you don't understand because of lack of knowledge of definitions ? For example, the technician can ask tell you to go to the "cmd" and type a certain command there... If you don't know what the "cmd" is , you will feel not very smart. Why did you use the term "self timer" instead of asking for a camera that can take a picture after some seconds without the need for someone to push the button ? I never talk in a way that will make someone look not smart. It's not right.

If his attitude was so bad, you have every right to be frustrated. I guess it is also right in that case to make him look stupid for not knowing what a self timer is. Maybe the boss would talk with him about it. I think breaking up a sentence into kindergarten language (I like that expression :) ) can prevent miss understanding problems and embarrassment. For both sides.

The difference between that and someone working in a store and hired to help customers is that I'm not hired to do anything when someone asks me about my computer. They can make me feel as stupid as they want to then, I'm not a computer guru. I was frustrated for the fact they were supposed to help customers at a store and this guy's attitude was so bad, the worst I have ever seen. I used the term self timer because that is what it is caused, I didn't know I had to break it up into kindergarten language for someone working there. If you saw him, and the way he talked to me you would also know why I thought he was stupid.

Now that's customer service for you. That guy needs to learn a lot about the products they're selling and even more on the art of customer service. I have a camera with a self-timer on it. It's a Nikon DSLR D5100. It can even let you have the option to take three shots in one set-up.

Exactly, I could tell from the get go of the first thing he said he wasn't very happy to help. Wow that is a good camera, I looked it up and it seems to be very expensive too. I was leaning towards the $100 or less range. I might have gotten the same camera I had before on eBay. Just praying it gets here and it works.

If what you mean is that when you're going to take self shots or group shots and nobody will take it for you then that's what self timer is for. You can set it to 2 sec or 10 sec (depends on the model), and yup I got one, polaroid it is :)

Yes, that is correct, thanks for letting me know you know what it is. It doesn't matter if anyone here does, as I'm sure you've not been asked to all work in a computer/camera store before like this man was.

Yes, I know what a self timer is. Boy, is that guy in the wrong job or what!!?? I have a little compact Olympus FE-20 and I love it. I've had it about 4 years now and it's a great little camera. Yes, it has a self timer and I have used it once. I've just bought a little tripod for it for when I photograph my jewellery pieces. I bought the camera and the tripod from eBay.
