I was thinking what the world would be like if everyone looked almost the same ... there would be no problems such as obesity, anorexia, and bullying. Everyone would have a similar level of self confidence as he or she won't find himself thinking how he looks in comparison with other people. Maybe it would be boring, but at least many problems would be solved!

It would be the Stepford World...lol. Did you ever see the Stepford wives movie? If not, check it out - because that's how the world would be. There would be no individuality if we all looked the same, and that would lead to a loss of things such as literature, plays, songs, acting, etc. - the creative arts would go down the tubes, because so much of it is dependent on various looks and appearances of characters. Just a thought. And those problems would still be there even if we all "looked alike" because many of them are psychological - and I don't think our brains would all be alike...or would they...?

Yes, it was just a thought, an impossible one of course, but I thought it was worth sharing. I agree that several other problems would emerge in such a case.

What you are saying means placing too much importance on the outside. The importance lies on how we are in a inside. Not everyone cares only about how people look, unless they are very shallow. That`s why most of the times bullies don`t go far and become what they are: losers. And many of the bullied people overcome the scars those a$$holes made and turn into flourishing human beings.

Yes I agree with you that the inside of a person, such as his/her character and personality, are far more important. However it is a fact that many people place importance on the way they look and how others perceive them. We all automatically compare ourselves to others.

I know that. And I have teached my children and grandchildren to look past looks or material things. Just as I don`t think beauty is a person, I don`t think that having a big car or house will make me a better human being. And I don`t much meddle with people that are only interested in that. That makes them boring for me.

You know, this is honestly something that I would rather not think about. The reason that I don't want to think about it is because for some reason it makes me think of Hitler and his goal of filling the entire world with the Aryan race. In my opinion, though it might be something that might stop some problems, such as profiling, etc. It would be a significant step backwards for human beings. In addition to that, I really think that it would just be strange to see everyone looking alike.

I think that it would be terrible if everyone looked almost the same. No Brad Pitt to look at, no Daniel Craig to look at??!(wait, I need a moment...) I understand your theory, but I think that having everyone look the same would in itself cause a whole onslaught of problems, like people committing crimes but we don't know who it is because everyone looks almost the same...falling in love with someone, but not being able to recognize them in a crowd...not having the pleasure of seeing your children born looking like exclusively "your" family. I think there still might be obesity and anorexia, probably even more-so because people would be trying so desperately to look different than their fellow man. And bullies, yes, there would probably be less bullying because a bully could not easily identify his prey if we all looked alike, although I do believe that bullies would still exist because it is very common for a bully to prey on the inner weakness of a person, in many cases paying no attention at all to the outer shell.

Even if it we were all the same, there would still be people who think they are better. If we were all, say, green, there would always be people who thought they are "the best shade of green" or the "right kind of green"; the same way there are women who think they're fat even though their weight is just average. Self-esteem is not about how you look, but how you see yourself.

I suppose there might be some support for what you say among the most shallow and ignorant of people, but all I can really say about it is that you clearly have no understanding that self-image comes not from your actual image but from the internal image you have of yourself, which rarely if ever has any connection whatsoever with the actual reality of how you look. Your hypothesis is glaringly wrong, and would merely create more problems than we can already deal with. Lash
