why don't they give the option of water instead of milk in schools?

I just don't understand why we don't have the option to get water in school instead of milk with our lunches. I mean it's not like they don't have it, but you have to go to the snack bar to get it and its a dollar. I don't like having to bring extra money just to get water. I mean they're so worried about what we eat now and they pretty much cut the portions in half and even raised the prices, but isn't water a healthier option compared to milk? It's not the schools fault, they have to do that, but I still find it ridiculous. I'm not really sure what it is, but the milk feels like it just coats you're throat or something and its really uncomfortable. Considering I have choir right after i eat, it's hard to sing after drinking that. When I drink anything else I'm fine, but when I drink that I get that weird feeling in my throat. Another thing, they didn't even let the teachers get a vending machine with water in it. How crazy is that? I know they tried, but it just didn't happen. What do you guys think? Personally, I really wish we could get water instead without having to pay extra.

I think that not having or giving you the option of water is indeed weird.

Maybe if this issue would be raised by representatives of the student body, the school would be willing to listen and do something about it.

We have tried things like that and it just doesn't work. Our school wont even put a vending machine for water in the teachers lounge. They only have one for soda. (We go to the same school.)

It seems that way. I'm sure we get more dairy products in our diets than water these days.

Food 'Pyramid' (Place-Setting) 2012 - First Lady Michelle Obama & Co.'s food-pyramid: The healthy Americans every meal (a plate of 'Vegetable,' 'Fiber,' 'Fruit' & 'Protein,' with a glass of 'Dairy.'
Have you seen the new 'food pyramid' (it's more like a 'place-setting' now). See that glass in the upper right corner? Says "Dairy," not 'Water.' I've heard (from Dr. W.C. Douglas III ... "Search the Web" for `im) that people get enough 'water' in their food without having to drink any. Water is more for between-meals anyway!

I understand what you are saying, but I am a singer and instrumentalist and I know you aren't supposed to have dairy before playing or singing. It makes your sound a lot less pretty. If you are lactose intolerant in the schools you have no option but to buy something else to drink which is kind of unfair.

I think we should at least have the option of having some water. It's also better to drink more water if you do sports too. I understand what you're saying though.

Water is very good for you and a lot of people don't eat enough foods with a lot of water in them because they are more concentrated on the salty chips and things liek that.

You bring up a very interesting point. Maybe you could research who the "Powers that Be," are and bring it to their attention along with some of your cohorts who share your views....If it comes to it, even start a petition. I believe there is an online petition website. You are powerful. Change can start with you. By the way, milk and other dairy products build up the mucus in your body.

I believe the milk the school buys builds up mucus much more than the milk I have at home. It's odd. I'll definitely look into the "Powers that Be" though. Thank you!

I understand your need for fresh water as you have choir right after your meal. I personally think they should prepare two dispenser, one with fresh water in it and the other one with milk in it. That way, people get to choose whichever they may want to drink at that time. Milk is good for health so I don't think there is anything wrong with giving them out. But yes, fresh water should be added as an option without having to pay extra as water is not something expensive for a must to charge you people.

Now that is a wonderful idea! I wish they would do that! I don't mind milk, it's just that I want water so I can actually sing.

I think milk can't substitute pure water therefore I agree with you. Of course you also need to drink 8 glasses of water too, to prevent dehydration. And milk although also healthy, not all people suits to drink it, and some people even allergic to them. Besides maybe milk long time ago is healthy, but now not really anymore because cows nowadays receive hormone and antibiotic which in turn come to milk also. Pure water is better and I find it's silly that you have to pay extra just to drink.

Very true indeed about all the hormones in milk! It kind of makes me not want to drink it. Although I do love a cup of chocolate milk every once in awhile, I don't like it everyday. Now water, I could drink that all day, even though I don't think I drink enough of it.

As far as choir goes, I would consider drinking water throughout the day so your throat and mouth are well moistened, especially if you are going to eat something salty. I understand why they have milk, it is nutritious, but some people don't like it. Also, you don't necessarily have to spend money on water if you bring your own bottle. You can fill it up at the water fountain when you have a class near one. It will only take you a couple of seconds and you will be able to drink the water all day and be well hydrated.

That happens because they have town water and not well water so if there is a problem with the water in town there is a problem with the water in school. Also, they were fixing the dishwasher so since it is so big that probably had something to do with it.

As long as the school water isn't yellow. I heard it was yesterday I believe. I'm sure there's a lot of people that can't drink milk though, so it's pretty unfair to them.
