**Shopping Online Thinking Everything Is OKAY**

Well, last Thursday I ordered a Carhartt Jacket for my grandson. I had to order this from Penney's because they were the only one's in my area that carried this particular jacket I wanted in Black. I went through the whole process, making my account, putting in my information, and trying to complete the order. The last page, which is the most important, wouldn't load. I waited, and waited, and waited......nothing. I ended up "X ing" out and checked my email to see if I had any type of confirmation...nope. I still waited a couple of hours because it was the day before Black Friday and I thought maybe there was just a whole bunch of online shoppers and that's what took so long. I received no confirmation whatsoever. So, a few hours later I re-ordered and it worked perfectly. The only problem was that they didn't charge me any tax. Ok, I'll just deal with it but I DID receive a confirmation number and a tracking number. They said I should receive it within a week. Here comes Monday and I thought I'd better check my checking account to see if they took out the payment. YIKES! They took out BOTH payments and I thought I was going to faint. GOOD THING I had enough money in my account to cover that even thought the 2 payments were "pending". I called and the girl said she would take out one of the payments...ok, good. Today I go and look and there is nothing in my account at Penney's being processed. I go to my bank account and they gave me back both of the payments with none taken out. What the heck! I call again, and the girl says it looks like everything went through and the jacket is on order. So why isn't it on my account at the Penney's website. Now I'm just waiting to see what happens...grrrr. Did you have any problems this year with online purchasing? This was the only problem I had and I ordered a lot online from Ebay and Disney too...no problems.

I have not ordered anything yet. I always use Amazon and PayPal. It sounds really strange, so you still are "pending". I guess it is good you started early so you will have time to get the things you ordered on time. I hope it gets straightened out. I love shopping online because it saves me gas money and time, but this does not sound fun.

I love ordering online too and this is the first time in many years I've had a problem. According to my bank account right now, there is nothing pending. What was pending was yesterday and that was taken off. I'm hoping the girl just simply cancelled both transactions and put on the new one. I'm waiting to see what happens.

renkin...both transactions were cancelled and taken out. I know how pending charges work and how they show up in my account. They are not in my account and are gone. I've had a checking account for at least 40 years so I'm quite able to know whether they were taken out or posted. I don't know why it's not in my account but when I called back again, they said it was re-ordered and will be on it's way soon.

Both transactions might not have been canceled, Kashmeresmycat. Pending charges usually only stay on an account for a few days before they "fall off", and it definitely could have happened with these since the charges were made last Thursday. Normally when it happens to me the pending charge will show up as a posted transaction a day or two after it falls off the account. It's weird that the order isn't showing up on your JCP account, though. I hope it comes soon and you don't have to reorder it again.

Wow that is alot of hassle. I did not purchase anything online during the sales. I am sorry you had so many problems though. I hope it all gets sorted out and you get the jacket you ordered and they take the right amount of money!

So do I!! I think it will work itself out and I will get the jacket without any problems now. It seems to be all cleared up and my money was refunded within hours. Penney's is a good company and has been around for over 100 years so I was pretty comfortable doing this...a bit weary, but not bad.

So are all I have ordered is gift cards. I ordered two from Eddie Bauer and they have already been shipped and I have the tracking info. The one I ordered from Amazon I got a confirmation of the order but nothing since...Hopefully it's on the way too. I usually order alot online...especially now when there is free shipping.

Penney's is the first problem I ever had with ordering online. It certainly doesn't give me faith in them but we'll see what happens. I'm really hoping that this jacket comes through for me and that will be the end of it. When I didn't get any confirmation on the first order, I didn't think it went through.......who would? Hope all goes well for you because it's pretty scary when you don't know what is going to happen. I told the girl today I hope they don't double charge me again...geesh.

Just one more reason that I use my shopping service, Big Crumbs, and always pay with a credit card. most credit cards have services that protect you from double charges and such.

The debit card should work the same way, mine does. Ask at your bank. I always use my debit/credit card when I order online. However now more and more places are accepting PayPal..

The payments were pending when they were taken out...maybe that's why my bank didn't notify me? Well now I have another problem where I thought everything was ok. I just received the jacket and no payment has been taken out of my checking account and I wasn't even suppose to receive it yet. This is getting rather laughable right now. According to Penney's when I called, my jacket will be shipped out on Dec.3rd......What?? I'm afraid to call them and tell them anything because they keep screwing things up. It should be interesting to see what happens out of all this.

I've heard of Big Crumbs but never checked it out. I don't have any credit cards and this was a debit card. I should have called when I saw the first page didn't load, and just asked them if the order took. Lesson learned.

last year i had that same problem ordering a jacket from walmart. so i called and they straightened it out. they say if it does that, like dont load right, you should call or something. i worry when i make a purchase at a store and they have to rescan my card. so far tho its been fine. i ordered one hoodie this year from old navy that i noticed i marked the wrong size. it was friday also, so i called them in hopes of changing it in time, but they said their computers were down so i called again on saturday and they said it was already processed in the shipping dept. and to late. did i want to order a replacement? i said no, ive already been down that road before last year and nearly didnt get my money back! for the return item. so i will either see if its not to big when i get it, or tell son i have to exchange it

That is one of the reasons I wanted to buy from Penney's, because I can return it if it's not the right size. If you can return it to Old Navy then you're ok. It just got so messed up I'm afraid that they're going to re-charge me again so I'm freaking out. It would be awfully hard to explain that they charged me twice, then took it off, and recharged me again twice. Sounds pretty fishy and I would be the culprit, lol! Anyways, I've never had a problem until now. I've been buying on Ebay for YEARS and never had a problem. This year I bought from Disney online and that went fine without any problems. Crazy I tell you, just crazy.
28 Nov 12
I have not ever had this happen to me but I do see how it can be possible that this could happen. I am sure many other people have had the same problem as you before. I am so glad that you had all of the money to cover it. This is the only bad thing about ordering online. I personally love ordering online because it is very convenient for me while having two kids instead of getting them in and out of the car to go into a bunch of shopping stores.

Yes, I sure was glad I had enough to cover it. I was getting pretty low on funds so this did make me very unhappy, lol! I usually don't have any problems but go figure..it's Christmas and everyone is shopping online. I think I just hit a glitch and probably should have called after the webpage didn't load. Next time I'll know and this is how we learn I guess. It is VERY convenient!

I do most of my shopping at Amazon.com and so far, so good. I have had strange things like that happen, though, where things get mixed up and no one seems to know what to do. I hope you get the coat (and it's just one) without too much more fuss. I would call Penney's and find out for sure which order went through and which didn't. Sounds frustrating.

Wow, good thing you did have the extra money, did you check and see if she did remove that payment? As for your account, you might have to call again. Like you, I do order a lot online, but mostly from ebay. My coffee filters is the last item I bought from another site and I had no problems, but now that I see what you went through, I will be extra careful in the future..

Oh, I saw where you went to your Penny's account, but not your credit card account and didn't know if you had checked that as well. I know the store Penny's, but they never seem to have anything and I took the chance on the coffee filters because I had that link from years ago when that was the only place to find them. When I was ready to buy, I looked again on ebay and everwhere and this site is the only site to carry these filters. And to think how easy they are to make, if only I had the material and a sewing machine, I could make money selling at the local festivals...

If you think you could make money on these, then why don't you get a used sewing machine and buy the material? Depending on the price of the filters, you might be able to make the money you spent back really quick, don't you think?

Carmel, you're so funny! Do you really think I wouldn't look to see if those payments weren't refunded? Of course I did, within a few hours. That's how I know it all got screwed up again. She was suppose to leave the one payment in and just take one out. She took BOTH out. I called again and they said the jacket was still on order so I'm guessing she just took both payments out and re-ordered the jacket again for me. How crazy is this...only me, hahaha. JC Penney's has been in business for over 100 years so I wasn't too concerned about ordering from them. I just didn't expect this glitch to come up. I only order from sites I know are legitimate and well known. And I wanted my grandson to have the choice of taking it back if he wanted to, so I needed a place close to home where he could return it. They only had this online though, none are in the stores.

This is a rather confusing story and I hope it will be the case of "And they lived happily ever after" I have had the joy of online shopping here locally and it was a cash on delivery - safe and sound. I had great plans to use my paypal account to shop online but we have restrictions here in that we cannot keep money in our account. It gets transferred the moment we have a credit there. I am shattered. All my hopes of getting my favourite Godiva chocolates have remained a fantasy!

Oh my gosh, I'm laughing so hard at your first sentence. How funny is that!! You can't keep money in what account? Your Paypal account? Why?, if that's what you're talking about. Where does it get transferred too? YOU NEED YOUR GODIVA CHOCOLATES! Don't they understand that???

Ok, still confused. If your money gets transferred into your bank account there in India, why can't you still buy Godiva Chocolates? If I WERE the head of the Reserve Bank Of India, I would let EVERYBODY BUY their Godiva Chocolates and make everyone happy!! Really, what's the big deal.

The money gets transferred to my bank account here in India - the dollars get converted to Indian Rupees! Bah!! See. You have perfectly understood my need for Godiva chocolates. I wish you were the Reserve Bank of India Head as that is where rules are made!

Sorry to hear that you had so much trouble getting your grandson's jacket. I hope that it will be sent and the one payment taken out. That would be really frustrating. I haven't had any problems ordering anything online yet. Hopefully there will not be any. Ebay is a great place I love it that and Amazon.

Well, it seems like everything is back to normal but I'll be happy when I receive the jacket and it's all done, lol! This is really the first time I had any problems so I was freaked out, ha! Yes, I love Ebay. I've been buying and selling on there for about 10 years now or more.

There was all kinds of problems and they did send me 2 jackets. I just returned one a couple of days ago. I will never order from them again because the problems never stopped completely like I thought. They were suppose to update my phone number too, which they told me they did and it is now in the computer. When I tell them my phone number, it still doesn't come up for them. Anyways, it's all over now and I'm glad.

Oh, I wouldn't want anyone to stop purchasing online, as long as they're careful. This was just a glitch and probably when that page didn't load right I should have called instead of re-ordering. But, I did get my money back immediately without any problems. Glad everything went good for you. Usually the bigger well known companies are pretty good with their service. I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time when this happened. Always check your bank account, haha!

Hi friend, sad to hear about this.I too purchased a lot of things from online but till today i don't encounter with any problems, i wonder why this site gives this much of problems to you? any way you got your money back, so it is not a scam one. Some online shopping sites are scams and user will lose their money with this kind of sites

I'm very careful where I purchase items from online. This company has been in business for over 100 years so I wasn't nervous at all. It just was a glitch and hopefully it is all over with and my grandson's jacket is on the way. There are TONS of scams out there and everyone has to be extremely careful when purchasing. I only use sites that are well known.

Hmm...I can't recall any recent issues I've had with ordering online. However, if Penney's can't get online ordering right then I don't see how they will succeed in today's economy.

I would imagine they're doing quite well in todays economy online. They've been around for over 100 years. Right now all seems fine and my jacket will be shipped out on Dec. 3rd. I probably should have called them after the webpage didn't load for me to see if it took or not. Next time I'll know better on what to do.

Though online shopping is really catching up in China, I am still very cautious with what I am buying online. So far, I am quite comfortable with buying travel arrangements like air tickets, hotel accommodation reservations, sightseeing tour packages and of late, train tickets. In the past, rail travel is strictly done on a personal basis which means appearing physically at the train station or travel agency to arrange and buy the tickets. Occasionally, I will buy a thing or two on our online shopping sites like taobao.com, tmall.com or alibaba, com which sells almost everything from clothing to electronics you can find offline in the real world. But, I have to say that it still does not compare to shopping in real time where I can try out the sizes, see the actual colors and feel the textures. These are the areas that causes concerns and problems for online shoppers here. We can always disregard the risks and end up with something we do not like and want but there are still a certain number like me that will spend a little more time finding out some background information about the seller before ordering and paying for it eventually. This is the very area that discourage the certain majority from buying online in China.

I'm very cautious about buying online and the company I ordered this jacket from has been in business for over 100 years. They are very reputable and my money was returned promptly..it's just the idea of having such a problem at this time that is aggravating me. And the other reason I bought from them too is so my grandson can return it if it doesn't fit or he would like another color. The company is close by to where I live...they just don't carry this jacket in the store, only online. I buy and sell on Ebay all the time too without any hassle. I don't disregard any risks and thoroughly check everything out before I purchase.

I guess that I must be really lucky because the only problem that I've had with my online shopping this year has been that a part of my order was cancelled because there wasn't enough stock for my order. However, I did receive the rest of that order on time and they still left my promotional shipping on. Well, I was able to go back on Amazon and find the same item with a different seller that was in stock and it was cheaper as well, so in a certain sense this was a win for me. However, it also illustrates the reason that I make sure and do all of my online shopping very early.

I really thought Thursday was early as far as sales go. In fact, this wasn't even on sale. I've never had a problem before until this year..and what a problem it was. Good to hear you received your order and cheaper yet! I love when that stuff happens, lol! I bought a cast iron pan on Ebay for my SIL which was almost $60 cheaper and brand new in the box. I was in my glory and that was including the shipping in comparison to the original website. I guess sometimes we luck out and sometimes we don't. Penney's is the only one I had trouble with so far, so I guess I can say I'm pretty lucky too.
