Thank God it Friday.
Nice day to us since its true that they will give our 13th month pay today.I check my bank balance online to see if its for really, then I saw that there some amount added so it really for real.
Don't plan yet what to buy for myself so I just let it be there but what I am sure about is to save the half of it this time around.

Not only do you get a 13th check you get it at the start of the month? You are freakin lucky! We don't even get a bonus at the end of the year but I shouldn't complain as this year was a good year for me and hoping 2013 is far better.
Save that extra check for something meaningful.

Well its in the law I think.
I am planning to save the half of it so I could have something to get in case there are unexpected expenses along the way. Better than spending it all.

good to know that you are saving. im expecting that you're also thinking what to spend in that money. for me i usually set it aside cause i consider it just an emergency money. it will be a "emergency fund" for the coming year. spend wisely there!

Well I am trying to spend the half of it wisely. I spend some of it for my family, that is for sure. For myself, no plans yet of anything I will buy as reward and treat for myself. Maybe a pair of shors will be okay with me.

So, you finally have your 13th month pay Ardoy. Is it full or it's just only half already? And just like you i also plan to just let it be in the bank first.
Us, it's supposed to be released today. However, the funding from our head office got late in depositing it to the bank. 
Thus, it will be just on Monday. That's okay.

Yes, we really have to spend it wisely and leave some for Christmas, ardoy. I don't want to spend it all and then when CHristmas comes, there's no shopping money anymore.
I always reserve the money for Christmas day shopping because it's the birthday of our only child, our 22 year old 2nd year medical student. We would always go out as a family after we hear mass in the morning, because it's our treat for her birthday and Christmas.

If it is on Monday, what a great day to start your week. We really have to save some before we spend it on things. And we really have to spend it wisely. And of course reward ourseles as well.
That's nice to hear...
Is it a common thing to have there?
Or is it considered like an annual bonus; for Christmas or end-of-year, perhaps?

13th month pay is mandatory in the Philippines. There's a Philippine law that mandates for the 13th month pay. It is usually given not later than December 24.
The 13th month pay in the Philippines is equivalent to 1/12 of the basic salary received by an employee within a year. If a Filipino employee worked for less than a year (regardless of the cause for the termination of his employment, the amount due to him is determined by dividing the total salary he received by the number of months he was employed. The computation of the basic salary does not include allowances and monetary benefits that are not considered or integral part of the employee's regular compensation.

I agree with fortknox. Instead of 12 months, there is additional 1 month. Some companies and offices gave additional cash gift which is included int he release of the 13th month pay.

Yes, thank you for that. I suppose the mandate is based on those who get paid monthly salary. Perhaps monthly is the common system of salary payments there.
A monthly salary here is not much common as a weekly and fortnightly payments. So for those who get paid weekly, they will get 52 payments in a year or 26 payments for those who get paid fortnightly. I guess monthly salary only means 12 payments in a year which really only covered 48 weeks of the year. So, a 13th month would really just make up for the other 4 weeks to make it equivalent to 52 weeks a year.

Wow, it's a nice day for you and your officemates receiving your 13th month pay. I miss having a 13th month pay since I work abroad. We don't have 13th month pay in the company I currently work in, though they give bonus every start of the year depending on the company's profit from the previous year.
It's Christmas time so I guess you need to treat yourself with a good gift. I guess you very much deserve to reward and pamper your self once in awhile, especially now that you received your 13th month pay.
Just a little advice - don't spend everything...hehehe. I hope you allot some amount for your savings. That's part of rewarding yourself for your future.

Welm definitely I will not spend it all and will save half of it this time around, for sure. No plans yet about what to give for myself as reward for a year of hardship at work. For now, I just keeping it intact.

Good for you. Well, i used to get 13th month pay when i worked at a restaurant. Still have some saved. Mostly i use it for my daily life and not buying something big. Maybe you should save half of it in case you short in cash at the end of the month.

that is good to hear then... I have just also received my 13th month pay this thursday...Well, it was actually deposited tuesday but I was absent for 2 days and I was not able to check my account...It was later on when I realized then there are funds which were added into my account...:)
