Reading picture books again

I've been reading a lot of picture books lately, with my son, and there are a lot more choices and variety than there was when I was a kid. I mean, classics like Robert Munsch have been around forever, but authors like Oliver Jeffers are new, and it seems like the kids section of the library and the bookstore are bigger. I'm also reading my son picture books in Japanese and I love how the art is so different from the art in North American books. I am tempted to see if I can find books from other countries...maybe the picture books for kids where they don't have words....just for the pictures.

that's very good. and encouraging your son to love reading. for starters picture books are ok because to fully grasp the topic about, this will develop your son's interest to reading because it is fun and not boring. (Pop UPS or books with sounds?" are also best choices.

We have books with flaps that you lift to reveal other parts of the picture, and he really enjoys those.

We had picture books in several different languages, which taught me a few words of other languages as well as my kids.

my Japanese and French have been improving because of reading to my son. It's a fun way to improve my vocabulary.

My grandson is a year old and my son and d/i/l have bought him soooo many books that do all kinds of things. There are always such colorful pictures and some of them make sounds. My son is a big reader and he's going to make sure his son does too. My son actually remembers some of the books I read to him when he was small and that makes me feel so good!

That's really sweet. Clearly, you're raising generations of readers.

Reading with your child is one of the best things that you can do with your child. This is something that will instill a very good interest in reading for them when they get a little bit older. There are all kinds of good books that are available for children these days, however, I've never been a person that will seek to kind different books from different countries for my children to read when they were younger. I've also found a lot of very different books for my children to enjoy at the local thrift store.
