Internet Withdrawal!

Regina, Saskatchewan
August 5, 2015 3:38pm CST
Ding dong, bang bang..........someone's at my door! But which one? Oh, there he is peering in my kitchen window! Power company advises they are replacing some poles and power boxes in town today and we will have no electricity for the next few hours. Well bummer! I can't live without the net for more than a few minutes! Can you? TTYL...................

Neither can I. I have had such moments here too but thankfully we have what we call a home UPS which takes care of some important items including the pc when power is out. We have load shedding as we call it at regular intervals. Just recently even our home UPS needed a new battery and that was the time there was no Internet.

That would be very hard for me. I would have to grab a laptop and head for the library or somewhere else with wi fi.

Wish I had that option Gerty. As it is, I just have to wait it out and try not to commit hari kari in the meantime! lol

Back at the end of May we lost power for hours. Turned out that a small, unexpected tornado hit less than a mile from my home.

Lately we've been under almost constant Tornado watch which is something new to us here in this part of the country. I've become an expert sky watcher!

I'd go out of my mind. We have numerous power outages here, especially in rainy weather, but they seldom last more than a few minutes at a time.

I can live without the net only if I know that I can connect to it when I want. I have bought a phone to be able to connect to internet during a power cut, and I bought an emergency charger working with normal batteries to charge the phone, just in case the power cut would last. With these precautions, I am able to live without internet.

When I lose power, nothing in my house works, not even my wifi phone............

Neither have I had such experiences but also here, we are not given prior information about electric cut out. So it gets worse.

I'm hoping now that new poles and boxes have gone up, our sudden power surges and cut outs will stop. We live in hope!
