At one time female writers were not allowed to publish books. They hid the fact that they were women by using a pen name. After a while, people realized that was silly and women were permitted to use their real names as the author or a pen name, if they wanted to. A male or female pen name.
After they got over that hurdle, they had to jump over one.
Having their books banned.
Never knew Maya Angelou was a banned writer!
