Here in our country having a phone is a necessity even for teens because it is really a great form of instant communication with your family and friends.

My granddaughter does a lot of traveling with her high school marching band and it's a huge help in being able to keep in touch with her while she's away from home

My granddaughter just got her first phone when she started high school. There have been many occasions when it's come in handy.

I think it is necessary for a teenager to have a cellphone. I feel much more relaxed when I can contact my son anytime. I know a smartphone may not be good for children because they may misuse it. Even if I am easy to addicted to the smartphone apps. So you can't count on teenagers will control themselves well. So I bought my son a common phone only. A phone which can text and make a call. It is water-proof. And its power can last for a month. Isn't it useful and better for a child?

I think its a luxury. Too many teens think they are entitled to have one.

Teens did not always have phones, therefore they CAN live without them and are NOT a necessity of life. I am sure many teens would argue about my opinion. I have 4 teens and none have phones and live just fine.
