Oil and water don't mix and it's best not to try

Oil and water doesn't mix and if you don't believe me, give it a try. The same goes for people - personalities clash like a herd of elephants running into a herd of buffalo. I'm not saying that I've run into a herd of either of those animals, but I've run into a few people who I just don't mix well with. I am not saying it's them or me, but it's not worth the effort or discomfort to try more than a few times. There are personality clashes for sure and it is best to retreat to separate corners. Life is too short and I don't have time to continually explain myself. When those things happen it's time to move on. Sometimes the 'list' needs to be lengthened and sometimes it needs to be shortened. This applies to people in 'real life' as well as online. Life is too short especially when you're on the downside of it.

I worked with someone who was the total opposite of me and we didn't mix at all. We were definitely oil & water but had to find a way to co-exist in the workplace. Definitely not someone I'd spend time with outside of work

Oh those situations always exist. My last 10 year job it was just me and my boss - no others and he was gone most of the time - it was wonderful.

Sometimes all you need is a spoonful of mustard to emulsify the oil and water.

It depends on how badly both parties want that to happen.

i am always surprised when I think I am getting along with someone and they suddenly start avoiding me. I must be more abrasive than I thought.

We cannot please everyone and we cannot like everybody, both in real and virtual life.

I know a few people like that here that I try my hardest to stay away from. Now and then I am forced to mix with them and I do my best to mix but when I can get out of it I am gone in a hurry. I am wonderful at making up excuses to get out of mixing with them. One of the best is when my big dog tries his best to get out of the yard and only cries and barks. When I am here he is so calm. I just say oh I got to go look at the dog and off I go and never go back.

Sometimes a third try at working things out is two too many for me. Life is too short.

@AbbyGreenhill You have that one right. I have a sister in law who can really try you so hard. I had to put her in her place and now I can at least stand her for about 5 min then I have to go.

I think the key is to just accept and appreciate diversity, and agree to disagree. Couldn't agree more with you, life is too short to worry excessively about such things (or people).

I'd agree with "Life is too short". Making happiness with the relationships that do work well seems time well spent!

Relationships must work both ways. Divorce happens and sometimes that is the best for all involved.

I agree I don't try to force myself onto anyone either, and when things don't feel right, then I move on, no hard feelings, I just move on.
