Time Travel

I remember a tv show when I was a child, called The Time Tunnel. An American show, filmed in colour, but alas for me, viewed in black and white as that was the only way to watch tv where I lived.
I found it gripping - there were lots of nail-biting situations for the intrepid time-travellers, not least of which the question of how they would return to our present, from the future or past in which they had landed.
YouTube has some material from this show, including an 18-minute publicity feature that I've included below. As you watch, remember how many other sci-fi series kicked-off in the 60s, competition for viewing figures was fierce, and some had apparently llimitless budgets...
I wonder if we'll ever figure out how to go back in time? What would happen to the present if we did...? Would we be able to get back to what was our present as quickly as we went backwards, or would we have to wait and go the long way around?
Would that it was so easy - recent stories, such as The Chronothon, indicate that the travel bit is easy. Figuring out where in space that particular moment in time actually is, is the challenge, as the planets are constantly in motion as they orbit their sun out in space... Scary!

@pgntwo Can't say I remember that one. Only time travel I've ever done has been zipping back and forward over time zones and I hate it. This is why Portugal has become my destination of choice, it being one of the few countries to align themselves with us. Eminently sensible people.

This was at the height of science fiction. this is also when Lucas and Spielberg were going to the movies and watching TV. Coincidence? I think not.

@pgntwo Imagine the inspiration kids are getting from these two guys. Should be great.

This seemed an excellent show at the beginning and I watched it for quite a while. Eventually I became disillusioned because they always managed to appear immediately prior to some highly significant historical event.
It would been better of the writers had a little more imagination. The scope existed to introduce events that we have no record of instead of only the well documented ones.

I have not seen or even heard about this TV show! It is because we had no TV set during those days!

@Dalane That sounds like a good idea!
For me, Groundhog Day for light entertainment, 12 Monkeys for thought-provoking time-hopping, and whilst more "instantaneous travel" than time-travel per-se, Jumper is good viewing. Source Code and Midnight in Paris involve time-travel too, and make for interesting viewing.

Moving forward in time is something everyone does every passing minute of every day...
slowing the rate at which time passes is also possible (high-speed travel has been shown to slow time, the faster you travel, the slower you age compared to someone who is stationary).
Reversing time, that's the tricky bit...

I don't think I'd want to go back in time but I'd be interested in going into the future and seeing what's ahead

Time Tunnel was my favourite show when I was a kid. I later graduated from University as a History major, so I think it had quite an effect on me. If it was possible to go back in time, it would also be possible for future people to drop in on the past, maybe even to our own time. I don't think that's happened, so I'm going to say that time travel isn't possible. A pity.
