Ah well, it seems the joke is on me this evening, my 45th post on myLot fell foul of the last bullet-point in the Guidelines: ?Posting jokes, recipes, "top lists", chain emails, or discussions consisting of only a quote. It has been summarily put out of its misery. So you've been spared all those corny Christmas Cracker jokes - but thank you for the feedback you did leave, while my Post survived...
This is where you will find out what kinds of behavior are accepted and unaccepted on myLot. When in doubt, remember the Golden Rule!

I reckon you could sneak a joke into a longer post, though, right?

@MALUSE I suspect that's not intended to sound as rude as it does in English. If you kicked someone in the prick, he wouldn't be very happy about it.

@boiboing My thoughts exactly. Either it's supposed to be bricks, or prick has some other meaning in parts if Europe, such as a thorny bush.

@MALUSE Kick against the pricks? I've never heard that expression!

Because it is duplicate content, @jaboUK . At least that is what I am guessing. If you tell a joke in your discussion and someone reports it as duplicate I do believe Alex kills it.

@DaddyEvil The same old jokes go around every few years, with each new generation of 6 to 11 year olds, mainly. And then again at Fresher's/Freshman's week at college/university

I just responded to one that was about a quote. Very good how they got that in too. A little grey matter goes a long way.

@pgntwo Personally, no, I wouldn't! That's why, when Alex apologized for telling me no on that link, I ask him not to apologize. He is doing his job and I appreciate that he is conscientious and fair about it. Even when the link I wanted to post would have helped so many. I can still pm it to Nanette and she can figure out how to give it to others who will use it as it is meant to be used!

Within certain bounds, yes. We would not want it any other way, would we, really?

I've never been sure of the distinction between a funny story and a joke. I've also been a bit worried that I sometimes write a post about food and add a recipe link in case people don't understand what the food is.

I believe that what they mean by "no recipes" in the guidelines is, you shouldn't start a discussion and put ingredients and a few cooking directions and that's it. If you add something of substance along with a recipe, such as a memory or story associated with the recipe, it think it is acceptable here on myLot.

@DaddyEvil A recipe is not 'definitely duplicate'. If I write how to make my two ingredient chocolate mousse, then it's NOT duplicated in any way. Only if the post is nothing but a copy paste of a recipe somebody found online or in a cook book is it a duplicate. I wrote about my mother's unfortunate ingredient substitutions and added a recipe of how the dish 'should' be made as a link. That didn't break any rules.

Yes this one can happen when you least expect it to happen. Guess someone out there didn't like the joke and reported your post. I now try to stay away from this type of stuff. I have had 2 of mine deleted when I first arrived here. But that was fine because I know it was a boarder line if it would or would not be deleted.

@pgntwo Uhm... if you are really curious, pgn, your post stayed up because Alex was very busy with his own family, so no one was checking on reported posts. (I know this because I had ask him to check a link I wanted to post. I ask him several days ago, but he only got back to me this afternoon and told me he had been gone for a long holiday.) Sorry that happened to your discussion, sir!

In my case, I mentioned the guideline in the post, so it stayed up over the Christmas and Boxing day period, possibly in the spirit of the season - not a bad innings.

@pgntwo Yah well it does happen now and then I guess so we do learn what they like and don't when this one happens to us here on the site.

Oh yes - there are some touchy subjects. I have added the link to the Guidelines in the parent post for this discussion - not sure why I did not do that before!

It is possible that the post survived, because the jokes were part of a longer text. I have seen posts with only jokes deleted.

I doubt we shall ever know - a case of "mea culpa". Now water under the bridge and all that, even if some parts of northern England have water over the top of the bridge as well for the last couple of days!
