Peace and quiet in Manchester at last

It has been constantly hectic in the city centre over the past 2 weeks, but now we have returned to normal. It makes a vast difference when everyone returns to work and once again I can stroll around without having to fight my way through the crowds. Despite being aware that most people would be working today, it still seemed a surprise to catch a quiet tram and stroll around a peaceful centre. Of course it is not likely to be very long before everybody is off work and crowding into the shops again, but at least it is not likely to be as packed as the festive season was.

I'm glad the holidays are over as well. I just prefer my normal everyday rut.

It is pretty quiet here, after tomorrow is a holiday, so most people are not back home from skiing stations.

Skiing stations? So have you imported some snow in order to boost that tourist trade?

@LadyDuck Oh, so you stole it from the North. I wish that would happen here when it snows, but the South always refuses to accept their fair share of the snow.

@Asylum No, in some northern regions they had snow, now we also have snow here in the south.

it should be quieter as students and workers are back at schools / offices, etc - the sales quieten after the opening days, so things will relax more until near Easter

I never noticed any sales while I was out today. I am sure that many are still in progress, but they are not as prominent as before and are easily overlooked.

@arthurchappell There will have been several in progress, but without the crowds they do not stand out the same.

Thats good you can get out and about now. Is the flooding receding as well there?

Yes, it was a fairly temporary scenario, although there is still the potential for more.

You know I do envy you with a city center nearby. We really don't have those much in the West. There are a few in the Midwest and East, but not here. We have sprawl, and no real centers to our towns. Pity.

@ElizabethWallace I must agree, but it is preferable at this time of year.

A city centre seems to lose some of it's appeal when it becomes busy.

@Asylum I am sure that is true, but it is better to have a busy one, than none at all.

@paigea I would much rather be in bed at that time, especially in the winter months.

@Asylum I do find that a quiet time to be out. And if I can make myself be out at that time; I quite enjoy it!

Same here. Finally got time to breathe (in between deadlines at work) and time to be alone. And oh, to think.

Yes, we always tend to look forward to Christmas in order to enjoy a few days off work, but they end up more hectic than actually working.

I'm not a fan of fighting my way through packed shops. Thankfully I very rarely have any reason to do so nowadays!

I hate the crowds as well, but I do have the choice of leaving such things until quieter days.

I'm always pleased to get back to 'normal' after the holidays although they don't impact on us much.

Walking around town is not my idea of fun, whatever the season. I just do what I have to, then get out of there.
