When I was making my bed today, I thought about the fun it was making the quilt that I use as a spread. I embroidered the blocks, sewed them together, and then my sister-in-law and I quilted it, by hand. I am quite proud of it.
I have done several of these quilts but this was the first one that I had quilted. Last year I did one for my granddaughter for Christmas, and had some help in quilting it as well. I am now working on the blocks for another. It is fun to do.
Does anyone else do anything like this?

The aging quilt on our bed was made for me by my Gramma. She made squares, the lady with the big skirt and the parasol, the dress and parasol are made from material scrapes, then she did an embroidered stitch to make the handle of the parasols. She put them all together and her and my Great-Aunt Ethel quilted it. I cherish it as they spent so much time on working on it for me, and it is such a personal item. She didn't like to embroider, that was my thing, but she did it for me, and the colouring, its purple, and that was always my colour, hers was pink. I miss her, she was special.

I have never made a quilt before, though I thought of learning how to make one. I'd like to learn how to sew with machine as well. It's so nice for you to make a quilt for your granddaughter, that's a wonderful gift. I wish I can make one for each of my child as well. If not, perhaps my grandchildren in future.
