How not to freak your neighbours out!

I live in a medium-sized apartment complex. My windows looked out to a small courtyard with some plants. So every so often, I would get up from my PC, walk over to the window and stare out into the courtyard. To exercise my eye muscles, I would try to count the small, bare branches on the tallest tree. I usually count to 20 and go back to my PC. But I got carried away today and tried to count to 50. I was struggling with the last few counts. So I thought I'd use my hands to mimic binoculars, just to help to focus my vision. It worked great, I finished my count. Dropped my hands and stared right into the horrified face of my neighbour, his bedroom window was right behind the tree! Erm.. erm.. he must've thought I was using binoculars to erm check his bedroom out! He dropped the blinds shortly after.. and they have stayed down since.. Erm.. what an awkward situation, I hope he won't shop me to the apartment management.. What should I do LOL? What would you think if you were the guy?

With all these round trips between your windows and your computer, I would not be reassured and I would ask you to remove all my videos from the internet, just in case.

@Drosophila Oh ! oh ! If Alfred Hitchcock was still alive, he would find a source of inspiration in this discussion for a remake of "Rear Window".

Too funny! Why not try sending some goodies or donuts in the guise of having extra and you want to share it with him. Then if the reception is good, you may want to say something about the incident and just let him know about your eye exercise.

@Drosophila Yes, honestly, I do believe you would freak him out, or he would turn out to be a mass murderer and you are now last on his very short list! But hey! You made it on the list, right?

Oops. I get asked all the time why I am watching someone. I was merely gazing to the distance, not looking at anything or anyone.

Very wise! yes I think I will try to take walks instead! But looking into the distance really helped relieving eye strains

Usually it is the other way around. He probably is wondering what the heck you were doing. Perhaps you should tell him, although I doubt he would believe you. Maybe you should focus on other objects to exercise those muscles. LOL

It only goes to show that many men think it's about them. I wonder if you would have thought the same were it him with his hands to his eyes in that manner looking in your direction.

Oh how embarrassing. If I ever saw him outside of his apartment, I might try and explain what I was doing but then again, it would depend on his personality and whether he was open to talking.

That's too funny. If the tables were turned I could understand it, but it's funny that he's concerned. I wouldn't worry about it, or you could find out his apartment number and send him a letter explaining the binoculars were your hands, and you were counting the branches.
