Self-fulfilling prophecy?

In my last post, I reminded all of us how quickly our lives can change. Yesterday, mine could have been drastically altered. My husband and I were walking up the brick pathway to the back door when I tripped, lost my balance and fell. I landed flat on my back on the cement patio. My husband tried to catch me, but down I went. He helped me in the house (after I realized I could move). I was in right much pain, but nothing that needed an ER visit. I'm sore in several places this morning. I bled a little from some scratches on my arm and tail bone, my knee is slightly swollen, and I feel like I've been beaten all over. But I am so very thankful for God's mercy and protection. I could easily have broken my back, cracked a rib, broken my shoulder, had a concussion, or broken any number of bones. Like I said, life can change in a heart beat. I'm just so thankful that last night mine didn't change as tragically as it very well could have. Photo from Pixabay PS: Not only did God protect me WHEN I fell, he also helped in WHERE I fell! I just saw that the space I fell in was about three feet wide, right in between a large gas grill and the brick steps of our back porch! Falling just a foot in either direction could have been so painful, if not deadly. God is so merciful!!!

I believe God does have ministering angels to help protect us at times.

Thanks, Dianne. I'm still really sore and I feel faint at times, but so much better than I might have been!

@DianneN Hope you didn't get hurt too badly! A few years ago, I fell in front of a restaurant, the brick paver I stepped on wobbled and I lost my balance. I scraped my knee and sprained my ankle, and you're right, it was so embarrassing!

@1creekgirl I tripped on the sidewalk in Florida and scraped my palms, knees, and arms. I also rolled unto my back. It was in front of a restaurant of outside diners. I was so embarrassed! What a sight!

Indeed. We do take mercy for granted and safety and well being. I am glad you are not further hurt, but if you do not lose the soreness soon, please get medical attention just to make sure.

I actually did go to my doctor yesterday after a couple of days of feeling like I might pass out or faint. I know now I should have gone after I fell, especially when I was dizzy and vomiting during the night. I'm scheduled to get a CT scan tomorrow to check for a concussion. Thanks for your concern.

The soreness is gradually getting better, but I did finally go to the doctor (I should have that night when I was throwing up) and because I keep feeling like I'm going to pass out, he's ordered a CT scan of my head. Possible concussion, I guess, even though I didn't hit my head. But I'm still thankful for no broken bones.

I fell over yesterday too. One foot slipped sideways on a muddy patch and down I went on my shoulder and knee. Luckily I don't seem to have had any repercussions from it.

You're better now and what a blessing. I'm sure the fall was painful I remember when I fell in Orlando. I said, " I fell and My husband said, I'll take care of you when I get home." Thank God I was able to get back up. Take care of yourself.

You're right, it would have been difficult to get in by myself.

I'm glad that you are ok! you are right, it could have been so much worse. one time, probably 10 years ago, my dad would have been about 65 years old or so, but anyway, he was walking down my stairs carrying a dollhouse. he totally fell down the stairs. he was at the top & fell all the way to the bottom. i was SOOO scared. he was ok. he landed just fine. so scary. of course, 10 years later, he's having hip issues. could they be from that fall? he's not sure. but still. when he fell, i was so afraid he had broken his neck/back.

Glad your dad didn't get seriously injured. I actually went to my doctor today because several times a day since I fell, I feel like I'm going to pass out. Doing a CT scan Thursday to rule out a concussion, even though I didn't hit my head. I'm still thankful I didn't break any bones.

It's so true. A person's life can change in a heartbeat. One accidental right move can also lead to meeting a new friend, avoiding a dangerous situation, etc. as well.

Good perspective. Earlier in the day we almost had a head-on collision when a large truck decided to pass thee cars on a double yellow line.

It is said that we women "above a 'certain' age" should always get ourselves checked out whenever we take a fall, but I been guilty of ignoring that suggestion as well. The last time was a month or so ago when I fell in my son's apartment. I bruised and tore up my shin, hit my head on the wall, and re-injured my lower back. My shin isn't completely healed, I am sure that I had a concussion, and my back hurts so much that it's hard to get up and around in the morning. I should have gone to the ER that day, and tried, but they had no parking left, and I wasn't about to sit on a bench outside the ER or on a chair in the waiting room, when I knew that if my son couldn't find a spot, he'd just get mad, go home, and expect me to call him (and not get an answer because he was gaming and couldn't hear the phone) when I got done. However, luckily, I do have a low vision eye appointment with a neuro-ophthalmologist on Friday, so I am sure if there is damage from a concussion, I will most definitely find out.

Wow, are you feeling better? Hopefully your eye doc will confirm no concussion. I didn't hit my head, thank God, but of course I'm still really sore all over and at least once a day, I feel like I might pass out. I have an eye doctor's appt today so I'll tell him about it.
