Maintenance Medicines

Two weeks ago , our high school batchmates gathered in a friend’s restaurant as a treat by two of the male batchmates who came home from the US for a vacation . The stories were non-stop specially the two guys who shared their struggles when they were still new in the USA . Then it came to the maintenance medicines each one maintains . Only two of us has no maintenance medicines yet and I hope it will be that way until i will leave this world. Though , my cholesterol would sometimes go beyond normal and has to take a medicine for a month to trim it down . What about you , have you got your maintenance medicines already ? I know , the young ones don’t have this yet . Note : The picture attached was taken during our gathering .

I'm 76 and don't take any meds at all. If I have a headache I'll take a paracetemol, and that's it. My husband takes a lot as he has heart problems. Nice photo - you are easy to pick out as the youngest looking and most beautiful.

@SIMPLYD I wouldn't know about cholesterol, BP and blood sugar. I never have any health checks unless there is something wrong, which there isn't. I had a hip replaced nearly 2 years ago and presumably everything was ok then.

No, I don't have one yet. Hope it will never be like my parents. At their age now they are not maintaining any medicine. Nice photo.

Really ! Then , you have good healthy genes because your parents don't have maintenance medicine yet . Or maybe because they are still young , 40's only ?

Maintenance medicine is like a trap, once you start taking it you will take it for life, it only cures symptoms not the root cause and big pharmaceuticals make trillions from it. They should make medicines which when you take would cure you and not enslave you, all these is only my personal opinion

Oh is that so . But they do make you stop when you again have a normal level of what they are curing , but not high BP though .

@louievill I agree . That's why even at my age , i always see to it that even just on weekends i can have a 1 hour or more exercise - dancing and some zumba , just at home in the bedroom , while hubby is still sleeping . Yes, that's me . Of course , i won't tell them or else they will strive to be more beautiful than me next time .

Though , it would be better if my picture was clear . It was already blurred . But nonetheless , it served the purpose - for documentation of the event . You know , there were lots of pictures actually , but this one and the pictures of the foods were the only ones that were posted in FB . Oh yes , the group pictures of the boys were also there . I guess , the one who took it through their phones didn't post it anymore because they might not like themselves in the picture .

You seem to console yourself that you are 66 so you should be having those pills already . The 81 yr aunt of my husband who came from the US , had herself medically checked , blood chem and others . For more than 20 years she didn't have a medical check-up . It was found out that she have a bit high cholesterol , so now she taking it for just 3 months . She didn't have any other maintenance medicine yet except for that which is only for 3 months .

@SIMPLYD My cholesterol is hereditary I can't control it with diet, the blood pressure is a very small dose of a very simple pill so I have very minimal medication and yes, the doctors says I am quite amazingly healthy , My mom is 101 so I think taking this very light pills will help me to stay healthy.

@DianneN My doctor wouldn't want me to be on it because i can always beat it by exercising which i don't have the time to do anymore . I am now trying with all my might to maintain my normal cholesterol , so i won't go back to taking it even for a monthly only .

Yes, a get together always makes us reinvigorated , just as you always do with you friends too. The doctor would just put me on medication for a month if it goes higher than the normal and because i also want it since i have no time to exercise. She monitors it every 3 months and i am doing what i can to maintain it on the normal level. I know you are taking meds for your cholesterol as you have mentioned it before in one of your comments .
