Cooking Slump

I always enjoyed cooking and preparing meals for the family but it seems as if I'm in a slump lately. I never know what to make and it just seems as if we're eating the same few things over and over. Maybe the hot weather has something to do with it but my culinary creativity is at an all time low. Tonight we're having chicken but I'm at a loss at how to cook it. I'm tired of grilling, baking and slow-cooking. Doesn't seem like there's much left to put a new spin on that old chicken. Oh well, I'm sure inspiration will hit at some point in the day....if not, I'll probably fire up the grill and have another dull and boring meal. Do you hit those cooking slumps?

Not really, I've always been alone so when I cook it's only for me and sometimes the furbabies when I make chicken or beef. I'm used to eating the same ole rigamaroll all the time but I do try to eat healthy.

I cook for a family so I try to shake things up a bit so we aren't eating the same thing over and over. No one complains but I get tired of making the same things over and over

when in doubt just throw the meat, veggies, and potatoes in the croch-pot and turn it on low and don't worry about a thing. At supper time it will be great

I definitely get tired of cooking the same things. For your chicken dish, what if you dice it up, heat it up in a good BBQ sauce, then serve on a bun with some chips or potato salad?

I've been in that slump for a year or more now. I just do not feel like cooking at all. Very rarely do I actually feel motivated to make something good. Otherwise I've been depending on someone else to make dinner (mostly my husband) or for their to be foods you can just throw in the oven to make.

I wish I could pass the cooking torch to someone else but so far it's my job since the rest of the family works all day

Oh yes, I can relate. I also do go through cooking slumps sometimes especially during rainy days when all I wanted to do is just sit lazily or sleep to enjoy the cool weather.

I do at times just lose the energy or motivation to cook something really big or that takes some time to make.

I have been dying to go out and eat but so far I haven't gone. I agree that cooking when it's hot is just too blah

I have been in a slump since mid May when I last cooked. However, I'm proud to announce that I will be cooking tonight! No applause needed.

It seems like we cook the same things over and over. But the things that we really like is what I fix every week. The things that are expensive like a nice t bone we have very rare. But as long as it is good for you. We do not care.

All the time. And now that I'm living alone, I don't even want to cook. That's all right as I need to lose weight, but I don't want to starve myself either. Have you made chicken salad yet?

I have an idea for you and it's easy- boil enough rice for everyone and then Chinese-style fry it in the pan with chopped celery and green onions and peas or whatever and then put about half a beat up egg through it- soya sauce, ginger, garlic (if wanted) and even a touch of teriyaki sauce. Now chop up most of the chicken in it and voila- a hearty meal of Chinese-style CHICKEN FRIED RICE~ DELISH!
