Are you dependant on coffee?

I have insomnia and find it hard to fall asleep, and am starting to take coffee to stay awake during the day. I don't find one cup enough and am contemplating taking two, but I don't want to end up coffee dependant in the long run, requiring coffee in order to function. I'd like to know if you are coffee dependant, and what you feel I should do. Are there any alternatives?

Does tea boost your energy similar to coffee? I actually hate the taste of coffee but have no choice but to try it as a way to stay alert.

I like coffee but it doesn't like me. So I don't drink it. You could try taking Valerian to help you sleep at night. You could get it as a tincture or a tea. I've also noticed that soaking my feet in hot ginger water made me suuuuper relaxed. It was one of the deepest sleeps I'd had in a long time!

Does the water need to be ginger? I'm pretty sure it's just because it's hot

@Joel7050 Add 2 Tbl. of ground ginger to the hot water and kind of mix it in. I usually add a bit of cool water so I don't scorch my feet. But you want to get it as hot as you can stand. And then soak 'em for 30 minutes. You'll need to keep adding hot water, as needed. When I did it, it was to get rid of a headache, which worked. I didn't expect the deep sleep part though. I have 6 kids and usually if they make a peep during the night, I'm up to see what's going on. However, the night of my ginger-foot bath my hubby had to get up to deal with some midnight kid issue and I was totally oblivious.

I am not sure...but I don't know why people get so hung up on whetehr or not they are drinking too much coffee. Coffee is a major anti oxidant and it is good for you. If it makes you jitery, eat a bit more.

@Joel7050, I have been through this and not fully out. Its a vicious trap. The insomnia probably causes coffee cravings in the morning. The trick is start looking at the insomnia and finding a way out of it. And that is difficult to do online as the causes will probably be unique for you. I would suggest doing some online research on what causes insomnia and see what feels right for you. If it serious, medical help may be required. I still need a morning coffee to get the day started. And sometimes for socializing with people I do not want to listen to :-). But one trick that worked for me was to slowly replace caffeine with something else - a healthier option like a mint tea or something like Horlicks.

Alright, I'll try something else. I don't find the coffee every morning helping much so I guess I'll stop.

I try to make sure that I don't drink more than two cups of coffee a day. I find that more than two doesn't quite agree with my stomach. But we are all different. Find what works for you.

I used to take coffee to start my day, but I never asked myself whether I was dependant on it. Now I drink whatever I want and many times it is just a helbal tea.

@Joel7050 I'm not dependent on coffee. I take any kind of drink e.g tea, milo, horlicks etc so that I do not get addicted to one particular type of drink. By the way, if you can't sleep at night, perhaps you're too stressed up. Try regular exercise as that would help most people relax and get a good night's sleep.

I can't say I'm dependent on coffee though I take coffee twice a day - once in the morning and once at 3PM.

No. I don't drink coffee at all. I don't like the taste or smell of it. I prefer water, tea, milk, organic juice, or smoothies over coffee. Now my boyfriend has to drink a cup every morning.

I do not drink coffee at all summer. Only in the winter. Because I was warm in the summer and it is more warming. I function well without coffee anyway
